Laguna Playhouse - I'm here to see the shark is broken!

Laguna Playhouse

(150 reviews)

It has been forever since I've been to Laguna Playhouse and that's my fault. For some reason, I…read morejust don't put life theater at the top of my list of entertainment, but that's going to change. I believe I saw this play being advertised on Instagram, etc. and it intrigued me so I opted to buy tickets. I'm one of those that do not necessarily need to be in the orchestra or main level and I chose to sit in the least expensive seats in the upper balcony areas. I don't think you can go wrong anywhere in the theater. There is municipal parking across from the theater, which is four dollars with no maximum hours. There's also metered parking in other city lots throughout the area. You can also take the free trolley. There is a small courtyard out front that early arrival patrons were mingling and having wine and a snack. Inside, there's a small beverage/bar area that featured some basic candy and snacks as well as some wine, coffee, and soft drinks. It was reasonably priced overall. We opted for a Coke and some pretzels and unfortunately, they carry the dots pretzels. I know everybody loves them. It's not my favorite. I do appreciate that they allowed the food and beverage into the theater. I'm kind of old-school a little bit of that because back in the day that was never allowed as far as the crowd most people were casually dressed or dressed to go maybe to dinner afterwards. It's a more casual environment compared to New York or Chicago theater districts. We thoroughly enjoyed the show. The shark is broken. The character casting was spot on. the mannerisms and voice inflections were also perfect. It was I believe a 90 minute show without intermission. Departing the theater and exiting across the street was easy. There are also restrooms. It seems handicap accessible on the lower level in general. I'm not sure about an elevator for the second level. I did not see one, but I would double check. Our tickets were will call in the box office person was very friendly and nice. I definitely will check back and see what other performances occur in the future.

Intimate venue. Play quality varies by actors performing, but no bad seats and a nice night out…read morewith many great restaurants nearby!

Laguna Niguel Lights - Animated Christmas Light Show synchronized to music broadcast on FM 90.5

Laguna Niguel Lights

This show just keeps getting better and better each year. The show how a Disney feel to it,…read morecomplete with all the spectacle and grandeur. There are always cars filled with kids with their little faces pressed up against the car windows; it warms your heart to see their faces lit up. You just pull up to the house, tune your radio to 90.5 FM and enjoy. The shows themselves are amazing. Each show is specifically synchronized to a specific song. The guy that puts the shows on is an electrical engineer; he customized and built each show himself, synchronizing millions of lights for every second of every song. There are no "canned" shows, each one is custom built and it shows! Each show isn't just lights blinking while music plays. Each show tells a story. For example, Carol of the Bells starts off with very little lights being used. There is a time when the piano is playing and there are strands of lights in the grass that look like piano keys being played; very cool! Then as the show progresses, more and more of the lights come into play. At the end, when just about every light is battling each other, it all just stops, then as the music gives that one final push, two shooting stars come soaring out of the darkness and crash into the ground producing strobes of white lights from the crash site, followed by an instant of every light on the house coming on at once. You can hear all the people watching gasp every single time. People also really like the Grinch show. It starts off slow and you don't realize it, but there is huge 7 foot tall Grinch that is blowing up in the yard as the song starts, but you're distracted by other lights in the show. Then when it gets to the, "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch," part of the song, the blown up Grinch is now lighting up to the music. You always hear kids saying, "Mommy, look, it's the Grinch!" All in all, a phenomenal show for the whole family and the whole thing is done to benefit the Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). What an amazing show for a fantastic cause.
