This place is absolutely amazing. Do yourself a favor by buying yourself a rack of ribs and some briskets. You will not regret it.

Awesome ribs! I would say Rodney's is my favorite in LA, but BBQ in LA is a hard one to perfect (I lived in VA for a while, so nothing beats BBQ in the south). The portions are big and the ribs fall off the bone. I love their BBQ sauce! Can't wait to come back for more. read more

Lake and Mountain location - easy and convenient. The rib tips are fall off the bone tender and meaty; sauce is perfect. Green beans and potato salad were tasty. Beans were good and so was the bread. We had ribs and rib tips and will try the brisket next time. Haven't had tender rib tips like this in a long time. Delicious! Would love it if they add collard greens sometime in the future...but this is good barbecue! Love that they give the nice napkins too. :) We will definitely be back! read more

Daaaaaaaaaang this place is good! And they give you samples! I had the brisket and the tutties ribs. Amazing stuff. The best part was talking to the guys who were working! Nick and Rick! Their ribs are sssooo good. Really hits the spot. Sides (baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad) are alright, nothing to write home about though. They have mac and cheese which isnt listed on their sides menu (idk why not) but its extra for that, which I was happy to pay... thinking the mac and cheese would match the deliciousness of their meat... however it was one of the worst mac and cheeses I've ever had in my life. I've worked on my own mac and cheese recipe for years because I loooove mac and cheese and theirs was just not good. Bland and artificial tasting. They also show up at the trunk when they feel like it... I pass the truck a few days a week at different hours of the day and I swear I see them closed more often than I see them open. If they were more reliable with their days and hours they'd get 4 stars. If they improved their sides - ESPECIALLY the mac and cheese, they'd get 5 stars. But until then.. 3 stars.. read more

So I came here for the first time and OMGGGGGGGG ITS THE BOMB. First off... I am speaking on behalf of the rib tips and the ribs... they are literally falling out of your hands as you try and eat the tips but there's this layer of harder meat on the outside that has so much smoke flavor that compliments the tenderness SO much. The fact that they are serving this up out of a truck is crazyyyyyyyyyyy.... the BBQ sauce has a vinegar twang to it and it just all works together ! I came across this joke of a food truck at Art Night in Pasadena tonight when they received a permit to host their truck in front of City Hall. I ordered TWO sides for a total of five dollars and waited 45 minutes and witnessed many others wait just as long and demand refunds. There has to have been at least 40 witnesses that could attest to this. The employees seemed to have been frozen by fear of being overwhelmed and moved even slower. In the end, they didn't even have any more of one of the sides I had ordered and had to switch it. I was sure I was going to get my refund but in the end when I finally got my food was so tired of standing around that truck that I cut out as fast I could. FOOD was NOT worth the wait. I was driving down Lake and saw the RR truck sitting. I love ribs and the smell was drawing me to stop. I checked out the Yelp reviews and the praises were loud and clear; I had to definitely stop & try it out. I've had plenty of bbq and I usually prefer Texas bbq beef ribs but I'm not opposed to other styles. I picked up the Rodney's dinner w/pork ribs, 2 sides and bread. My partner in crime ordered the brisket sandwich. The guys working the counter were nice and polite & friendly; a rarity for most food places these days. Not only did I appreciate their great customer service, the food was ready quickly & hot. By the time we got home my mouth was watering. I have to say that everything was great! The potato salad, the green beans and especially the ribs and bbq sauce. I was able to sample the brisket and it was the really good too! Rodney's is reasonably priced and well worth it! Rodney's ribs may be recently opened but you can taste the years of experience in his ribs. I grew up in the south with ample access to incredible bbq. I'm pretty critical about ribs and Rodney's did not disappoint. Excellent rub, tenderness, and a perfect smoke ring. As far as I know he's the only mobile bbq with a smoker built into his truck. They catered my birthday. We got brisket and it was seriously amazing! Good brisket is hard to find. It takes a lot of time and you need really good quality meat with a lot of fat. Rodney's delivers on a tender falling apart brisket with enough fat to make it juicy! The bark and burnt ends were delicious! Just use a plastic fork and it just falls apart. On par with a Bludsoes in Compton (not the la brea location). Guys are very friendly and they actually delivered to our house! read more

My family and I are church friends of Rodney's and wanted to come out and try the food to support the business. I have to say we were all blown away by how delicious the food was. I've lived in Pasadena my whole life and have always wanted a place to get some good bbq and now we have it. The ribs are tender and absolutely delicious and I'm not normally a brisket fan but my mind is changed after having Rodney's brisket. I recommend this truck to all of my out of town friends when they are visiting. The staff is great, very friendly and Rodney is a wonderful man (with a great singing voice btw). read more

I was driving by when I saw this truck with a cute cartoon on it .. I thought let me try this it looks interesting ... the briskets are fucking heaven!!!! they melt in your mouth and the meat on the ribs just falls off the BBQ sauce is sooo good .... remember how I said I'm middle eastern? yea so one day I was late and they sold out (because they're fucking awesome like that) and I was like ok what ever I'll get briskets somewhere else "briskets are briskets" .... So I've been hearing about this truck in the Pasadena /Altadena, and how good it was. I live in the San Fernando Valley so with my limited time I have been procrastinating a little bit. Let me tell you "that was my biggest mistake!!!" I finally made it out there to see this beautiful custom built food truck. The staff was so clean and so nice, it made this experience start off well. My buddy that came with me ordered the Tutties Tips and I order the Rodney Dinner; we shared. When I tell you how good these ribs are seasoned to perfection and so tender falling off the bone just absolutely perfectly done. The sides were excellent as well. I'm not one who likes people's potato salad, but it was delicious. He doesn't just serve you a piece of white bread, he serves you a sweet like a Hawaiian bread which goes perfect with the barbecue . I'm a little sad I didn't get to try the brisket because I hear people are raving about it! The person right before me got the last brisket of course. It was right before closing time, so what does one expect. Rodney told me that he made three of them that day and they just been blowing through them. If you see Rodney out there, you must talk to him. He's the nicest guy ever. I'm a Le Cordon Bleu graduate, but Im just a lover of food and I know what foods supposed to taste like. the man knows barbecue..! i tried his rib dinner and tips and the meat was perfectly seasoned and smoked. they put the right amount of sauce on it so it's not swimming in it and enhances the flavor perfectly. the only weakness i found was his sides. he offers potato salad, green beans and baked beans. the baked beans were the best by far. the others were not bad but not very notable. rodney's a very friendly guy and i really enjoyed meeting him. we'll definitely be back..! read more

The BEST EVER BBQ Food Truck! Yesterday I had the beef brisket sandwich after tasting a sample. I don't normally eat beef, but the sample was so juicy and tender I couldn't resist. I would have ordered the ribs but I had just had ribs on July 4th and yesterday was just July 10th. The sandwich was chock full of meat, so much that I could only eat half and I took the other half home to eat today. I'm really looking forward to the next time I see Rodney's truck! read more

I saw the review for this and decided to check it out even though it did not have many reviews. I'm glad I did because it was pretty good! I tried the brisket and the ribs! I called this business and asked when would they be open and selling, a gentleman told me, in about two hours on Lake and Mountain. Two and a half hours later I drove to the location and I talked to two gentlemen who seemed to be setting up to open. I asked them when would they be open, a gentleman stated in about twenty minutes and proceeded to enter the rib truck. Having driven to the location I decided to wait, I waited another hour before the man who told me twenty minutes exited the rib truck at which point I asked him how long before you open and he stated about fifteen minutes. I guess he had forgotten me and I told him, you told me twenty minutes an hour ago, he gave me a dumbfounded look proceeded to walk away. If this business is willing to lie about something as simple as when will you be open, I can't risk eating from this food truck nor should you. read more
