An embarrassment for Choice Hotels. Broken AC in lobby where it was over 90 F. Broken ice machine. Mold and fire smell in room. broken fan in the bathroom. Pictures on web sites are from many years ago. Barriers in front of the hotel and large burnt-out restaurant (from many months ago) is beside this. The owner has given up trying. Choice Hotels needs to cut ties! read more

Staying at Rodeway Inn (Newark, DE) was torture. There was a broken soda machine that made a loud grinding sound every 20 minutes. If by chance you were able to fall asleep on the miserable bed, you would almost immediately be awakened by the grinding noise. This is the only motel I know of that has a sign that explicitly prohibits prostitution and illicit drug use. Crumbling concrete, weeds, trash, sticky floors and dog turds complete the ambiance of this hell hole. We probably would have been just as comfortable in the dilapidated abandoned restaurant next door. read more

From the appearance outside, never should have walked into the office to get my Choice Hotel reservation. But with no other hotels available in the area, I made the mistake. But just could not stay after seeing the 2" hole in the bath tub, where the smell of mold was filling the room. Would not send my worst enemy here. Shame on Choice Hotels for even allowing this place associated with their brand. read more

Booked a room through Trivago/Bookings.com for my son and I as he returned to the University of Delaware after 3 semesters at home due to Covid. He was moving into an apartment for the first time, having outgrown the desire for domitory life. Classes started before he could finalize the lease and deposit, so he was staying at this Rodeway Inn for a few days. It is only minutes from campus. This was one of the cheapest deals in town, and likely one of the oldest motels. Newer facilities are all around, as Newark has become recognized as an attractive college town worthy of academic tourism. I met my son here. There was a large sign in front of the office warning that prostitution was illegal in Delaware. Appreciated their public service announcement, but found the need for it a little disconcerting. Anyway, that business was not evident while we were there. The room was large with clean beds and bright colored bedding. The bathroom was super sized for some reason. WiFi required a password from the manager, but it worked well. Although breakfast was advertised as part of the package, in fact that was not true due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. Only a small coffee service in the office remained. There was nothing fancy about Room 105. If we wanted luxury we would need to go to those $200/night accommodations up the road. No, Rodeway Inn University was strictly heads-on-beds without pillow chocolates. For the price on the low end of the spectrum, it was all we expected and needed. read more

Apparently I should have read reviews before booking this hotel. For $100 I was certainly not expecting the Ritz Carlton, but I didn't expect to walk in to what should be a $29.99, side of the interstate, sleazy hotel, yet that's definitely what I got. When I tried to get some assistance with moving to an affiliate hotel, they only offered the option to switch rooms. As you can see by the pictures, the conditions of this hotel are by far substandard. A wall panel was on the floor upon arrival, and appeared to be covered in mold. A local told us that this hotel suffered significant flood damage somewhat recently, so that leads me to believe that there's a real possibility that there is mold elsewhere in the room. There also appears to be blood splattered on a lampshade. The tub/shower is absolutely disgusting too. We're traveling for a funeral, and really did not need this added stress. read more

On a road trip, we last minute checked out Expedia for a cheap, clean hotel. Unfortunately many rooms nearby were over $200 a night. We did find a few that were more reasonable and that got decent reviews. Before booking, Expedia warns it is non-refundable. When we pulled in, we quickly realized the pictures were not reflective of reality. Checking in, the front desk person was nice enough. We had no idea where our room was, and were left to wander. It seems that this motel is probably a place where shady stuff goes down based off of the people lingering around. We made it to our room, first thing we noticed was the lock only bolted shut, the top lock was missing. The light switch didn't work so we turned on the lights in the room. We immediately checked for bugs, and fortunately found none. The mattress and linens were cleaned at least. The bathroom seemed only to be partially cleaned. Like there was a used soap bar in the tray?!? But a new one was by the tub. The furniture was stained and in disarray. Fortunately we didn't bring anything in with us because it was just a pit stop. The noise outside was ridiculous, people fighting and partying until after 3am. I'm super confused how someone gave this place 5 stars... Did you stay somewhere else and accidentally write a review for the wrong place? Would never stay here again, it was dirty and felt very unsafe. read more

Omg this was the worst roach Motel I've ever seen! The front desk took over 20 minutes to check one person out. There were 4 of us that were supposed to have 1 room each, yet he couldn't find the last reservation. Then miraculously found an extra room! When I walked up the stairs to get to room 209, the concrete ceiling holding the pathway to the room was crumbling. I walked into my room and saw one of the beds not made, and stains on the sheets. The bathroom smelled like weed and there was a live roach on the floor by the bed. I grabbed my stuff and turned in my key! I would never stay here and wouldn't recommend that anyone else does. read more

Eewwww! Yukky! Ickie!! Gross! Is an excellent example of why I don't stay at Rodeway. Filthy. Disgusting. We asked for a non-smoking room and the first room we were given, we opened the door and the stench nearly knocked us off our feet and we were still outside. The second room was exceptionally musty, but it was 1:00 in the morning, we were exhausted and just wanted a shower and bed. I was scared to walk on the carpet in bare feet and wwas most grateful that my socks were black to begin with. Awesome water pressure in the shower, though. read more

As I write this review cockroaches quickly run across a damaged table. This establishment is filthy. The room smells, the sheets comforters are adorned with cigarette burns. The carpet has burn and is sticky in spots. Bugs are widespread. It is the worst hotel I have ever seen. I had to strip the bed. and remake it using the comforter as a base because of the bug situation. I frantically tried to find another hotel but due to the Democratic National Convention, I could not. Had a two day reservation and left as early as I could to find other accommodations. It was the worst. Rodeway In should be more than embarrassed. Li read more

I give one star because it won't let me give it less. BEWARE OF ROACHES!!!! We booked a stay and found a roach egg had just hatched under one of their towels. Baby roaches everywhere. Then saw what was probably mama roach scurry under the bed. Called front desk who came with a can of Raid, did NOT use Raid and just wiped up the dead ones with a paper towel that we already squished with their towel. The guy said he didn't have time to spray because he had to get back to the desk. Packed up and shook everything out in the parking lot to make sure no creepy crawlies came back home with us. I also have the employee saying on video that he knows they have a roach problem. Security guard in parking lot said it's always a problem there. Called Board of Health and no return call. Asked for my money back from Rodeway and was told no. Disputing with my bank. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE UNLESS YOU ARE INTO FILTH. read more

So my wife, kids, and I stayed here last minute. Sure it's cheap as hell. But the beds are uncomfortable, the rooms smell like mold, and don't even get me started on the "breakfast ". This is more like a "pay by the hour" type motel. On the plus side, they do have an armed guard walking at nights. However, he is like 100 years old. This is a place to stay if you don't want to spend a lot of money if you are just passing through and need a place to shower, shit, and shave. read more

I would give it 5 but there would 2 issues 1st the smoking rooms are backed up to the non smoking so the smoke comes there the bathroom 2nd the staff 1st night the guy asked about snakes (HELL NO I DON'T WANT SNAKES) 2nd the other guy said "I'm incompetent so you will have to wait for the manager" other then that it was GREAT read more

Little back story first: I had a trip planned with my mother, girlfriend and I to visit a race track in Pennsylvania on a Saturday night, then we had to be at another race track in Dover on Sunday morning at 6:30am. So we needed a place to stay in between for roughly 4-5 hours. My girlfriend and I chose this hotel which was in between both of our destinations, and right off the highway. HORRIBLE CHOICE. We arrived at about 12:30am, checked in, got into the room. Was super quick, no hang up. Upon going into the room, we noticed one bed had stains on the comforter. That is pretty gross. The fridge was NOT hooked up and was room temperature when I opened it. Not sure how long it was unplugged for. We requested to have a coffee pot in the room, there was none. When we tried to turn the shower on, only the bath would run. I tried many times to figure out how the shower would turn on, but nothing worked. While we were in the room, we smelled smoke the entire time we were there. We asked for non-smoking. Upon checking out at 5am, we told the clerk about everything that was wrong and how we didn't enjoy our stay for roughly 5 hours for $79. We also told him about how the outside of our door had a "SMOKING" sign on it, as well as the rest of the floor. He said that sometimes "people switch the signs around, but that is a non-smoking room" REALLY?! After telling him more about what we didn't like, he said "Oh, well you'll have to talk to the manager" and handed us a business card. I contacted Choice Hotels, who run Rodeway Inn. They sent the matter over to the manager. From what I was told, since each Rodeway Inn is a franchise, the manager would have to make a choice on what to do, not the company. Fair enough. After talking to the manager, he said the best he can do is "give us the best room, at the best rate next time we are there". I don't think so. Also, since we booked through hotels.com, they cannot do anything. So, in conclusion, this place is horrible, rooms are gross, everything is poorly run, and the management can careless. Skip this place and find another! read more

This motel was clean, clean, clean. No bugs or rodents. A few small repairs could be made, but nothing that affected my stay. It was quiet and the staff was very courteous. The price was right and it was just what I needed. I was driving to CT from Washington, DC. I was tired and needed a place to crash. I highly recommend this place for anyone. Best thing was that I had the cash but not enough money on my debit card. They reserved the room over the phone anyway. I was able to pay cash when I got there. I cannot say enough about this place. Ask for what you need in order to get your needs met. It is a no smoking motel, but people do break the rules. I got a room that smelled of smoke and was immediately given a smoke free room. I showed them kindness and are courteous you will get the same in return. Before I booked the room I said a silent prayer that it would be a good stay. I"m not religious but spiritual. Perfect stay. read more

Lost my reservation, furniture filthy. Holes in the walls. Smells disgusting. The only people that could give this a five star are living in a tent in the woods or a Crack fiend that is looking for their next fix in a hotel room. No exaggeration, they should pay you to come stay there. This place is a dump. read more

I booked a room for three days but managed to take care of my business in Newark in two days. So I had to check out early and get a refund for my third day. Getting my refund was a breeze and the manager was really pleasant and even asked if I enjoyed my stay, which was a plus. So I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for an affordable place to stay. It's clean and my room and bathroom looked newly renovated. read more

Upon arrival we were refused the lobby bathroom. Turned away immediately thanks anyways. Not to mention pool closed on memorial weekend

so gross and dirty. there are so many (cheap/around the same price as this) hotels around this area that are way better. flies, bed bugs, dirty toilet, dirty shower, dirty carpet, the room smelled of cigarettes, and so much more. it is summer as i am writing this/stayed here and the pool is broken and the AC doesn't work. we had it on 60 and it never came on. this place is so bad, i don't know how they stay in business. read more

There is PROSTITUTION occurring at this hotel. My Uber driver dropped me off here along with 3 of my female friends (19, 20, 22, and I'm 24 years old) and told me it was unsafe for us to stay at this hotel. He pleaded with me to go somewhere else and even offered to drive us somewhere for free stating that he was a father and didn't want this on his conscious. We ended up checking in to the Red Roof Inn across the street and the front desk manager told me that last year the police were called to this location over 500 times for illegal activities including concerns of sex trafficking. They will not refund me even though this was a safety concern. The women I spoke to on the phone didn't deny the claims that there was illegal activity but said they have a night shift security guard to make it safer. This hotel should lose their franchise rights because they're running an illegal prostitution ring out of their facility. Also, these pictures are totally fake. The hotel looks NOTHING like this. It's the most disgusting place I've ever seen. This complaint has been reported to the BBB. DO NOT STAY HERE! read more
