As our friends know, My wife Sara and I were fierce advocates of Driftwood in Plymouth for years... Even going so far as to stop there with our wedding party between the ceremony and reception. Well Driftwood might be gone, but Matt Hennessy has done it again with Rod & Rail. It's atmosphere and menu scream "You're at home here!" and it's carefully curated draft beer list, while not as extensive as Driftwood's, has something that will delight even the most fickle "connoisseur." The food is nothing fancy but done really good the burger and chicken sandwich we had were excellent and the fries were outstanding. Not sure why every restaurant does not make hand cut double fried fries seems like it's easy but very few restaurants do it. But thankfully they do I will definitely return read more

It's exciting how revitalized Buzzards Bay is becoming and Rod and Rail is a lovely addition. With that said, it was just ok. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The service was a bit up and down... attentive at first but later a drink order and dessert order forgotten. The of us each got a different craft cocktail. All 3 were disappointing and the wine tasted like it came from a $3 bottle. The menu was very limited and they were out of several things at 6:30pm. The selection was nothing special and the quality was mediocre. Overpriced. Probably won't go back. read more

We had an incident that had left us feeling off about about this establishment. We had family back at the place looking over the menu to place a order, we were headed there to order in person and pick up, just before we arrived we part if our family called in a takeout order. We arrived at the establishment un aware the family had already ordered, to be told you were not doing takeout order (when the sign says they are). Called my family to let them know just to be informed by them they already placed a takeout order! I went back in and told them if they can't take ours then they need to cancel the others, we aren't getting food at multiple places. The manager (women average height brown hair working Saturday afternoon 9/30) tried to explain the situation and took our order. While explaining she got progressively ruder, saying "You need to understand!" What we understand is your staff should be trained better, this was an annoying and unnecessary mistake on her part. All I can say is wow. My family and I went to Rod & Rail after a long day of getting the camp site set up. Immediately you are impressed by the atmosphere and the warm welcome you receive not only from the staff but the owners as well. Not to mention the food was so good we ended up eating dinner there two nights in a row. My son the 6 year old picky eater ate both of his meals in their entirety. My daughter couldn't get enough of the chicken sandwich she just had to order it both nights. My husband the foodie loved not only the food but the attention to detail in even the small things because as he puts it you eat with your eyes first. So presentation is key for the entire experience. For me who prefers a non alcoholic beverage it was so nice to finally have a place to eat and enjoy what looks like an adult drink and not a kids soda, due to the impressive selection of mocktails ( on top of the regular drink menu as well, which my husband did enjoy) I highly recommend. I also forgot to mention the homemade donuts on special nights to top off dinner. Be sure to ask as they go quickly. read more

Very cute little place with a nice beer selection on tap and in bottles. I have had their smash burger and their BLT so far. Both very good. What I have seen people order (and heard their good remarks, it is a close bar!) has looked phenomenal. Prices are reasonable. Not many places to eat in the area so I am glad they are there! read more

We just had our first dinner here and it won't be our last. Nice spot in Buzzards Bay with nice decor. We ate outside in the rear area which was nicely decorated and very clean. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly, and the service was fast. The nachos were delicious and the smash burger was especially tasty with the Cajun tots. Great selection of drinks too. We've been summering in the area for 40+ years and will definitely be back soon. read more

Signs you've found an AWESOME restaurant: 1) You can't wait to go back and try ALL other items on the menu; 2) You wish the restaurant were next door so you could go every day; 3) You hesitate to Yelp how AWESOME it is because you don't want competition getting a seat! Rod & Rail was an amazing surprise that we happened upon on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The interior is small, but not tiny, and it has a very welcoming bar area (Tori, our bartender/server is a GEM!). We sat at the bar and split 2 dishes - the Short Rib Poutine and the Fried Oyster Po Boy, and followed up with an order of their version of Munchkins (w/Caramel Sauce). Food arrived piping hot, crisp and so very tasty (no salt needed); their Poutine features Tater Tots (vs. french fries) and each chunk of short rib is fork tender and tasty, with a flavorful gravy and generous nuggets of curds sprinkled throughout; their Fried Oyster Po Boy is served on a crusty french roll, with plenty of nice, fresh-tasting oysters, lettuce & tomato & sauce. Munchkins were tasty, crispy, not oily, and 5 were just enough to split between the two of us; the Caramel Sauce was the perfect addition to sample. Special thanks to Tori for her suggestion of an orange chocolate stout beer - the lady knows her stuff! Went out with friends and decided to try a new place. It was great with a fun and friendly atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive. We all enjoyed our meals. We had dinner at Rod & Rail last night with friends. It was the first time for all of us. We had heard good things but were really not prepared for how good the food was. We were expecting average pub/comfort food and the usual draft beer. Well we were pleasantly surprised! The burger I had was incredible. It was a gourmet type burger, way better than expected. The fries were excellent and the side of coleslaw I got was out of this world. The staff is very friendly and the service was top notch, very attentive. Everything is obviously not your average pub food. The beer selection was also excellent. We will be going back soon! Highly recommended! read more

I've been going to Rod & Rail since it opened. Always had a good meal, good drinks and great service. Love the bartenders! Went in last Saturday night with my fiancee around 6:00 p.m. It was busy but we got seats at the bar. We ordered a burger to share and had drinks while we waited. It took over an hour to get the burger, which was tasty but we had to rush through as we had to be at an event for 8:00 p.m. The manager asked me how our meal was and I mentioned it took an hour to get a burger. With no "sorry, we are understaffed an appreciate your patience", he said we are short a fry cook and if I could get him someone to wash dishes it might help. I was not rude or loud or demanding to be comped for the meal. We fully understand staffing issues in this environment and would have been understanding if someone mentioned they were way behind in food service. I was mostly angry and disappointed by the manager's reaction and response. We've been loyal customers but will not go back. read more
