I was also very clear about the scope of work: I would be providing all packing materials, I already had boxes and containers pre-packed, and I needed furniture moved downstairs and loaded onto the truck. Everything was discussed upfront. However, when the movers arrived, I was presented with a bill of over $700 and told the job would take 7 hours. They also added new restrictions that were never disclosed beforehand, such as only moving items already in containers. Because this was completely different from what was agreed to, I canceled the service. I had paid a $100 deposit, and they only refunded $28--keeping $72 despite not performing any work. Based on this experience, this felt like a bait-and-switch situation, and it put me in a very difficult position on moving day.
