Geez, I don't understand these reviews. Previous owner, George Haselton, was great in my opinion. I think the guy is brilliant. He sold the company and there were some rough patches as the new owners integrated everything, but I am satisfied with their work and they do all our systems -- water, boilers, A/C. There have been some small issues with mistakes done by technicians, but no one is perfect. Their customer service people are courteous and efficient and they are available for emergencies as well. Excellent work during the past three weeks installing air source heat pumps and controls integrating with an existing hydronic distribution system. After years of maintaining a quirky geothermal system (installed by a contractor that has long gone out of business) that after 22 years of spectacular savings required a lot of intelligent care from heating and cooling 5,000 square feet year around, with no backup. Rob Dakin and crew perform excellent work, from design to installation and commissioning, very thoughtful, careful, and responsible. No reservations in this recommendation, at all! And frankly, I do not understand the negative comments among other reviews: George Haselton and their technicians I found excellent for two decades, and after thirty years of practicing architecture among many quirky projects, my basis for comparison is wide. Awful and unethical. Had them out to look at a Vermont Castings gas stove that I was having a hard time starting. Jared Libby came out got it started but told me the pilot assembly needed to be replaced but parts weren't made for my Stardance SNV30 stove anymore and suggested I replace it with a Jotul.. It was the end of the season so I didn't but a new stove. This year I developed a leak in my chimney so Jared came back out to see if he could fix it. I wanted it fixed before getting a new stove. He went into my attic and told me he could see daylight around my chimney pipe but he could fix it when he installed a new stove. He could go on the roof and add flashing or whatever was needed. I went to Mazzeo's and bought a new Jotul stove, cost over $2000 and we set up an install date. Jared came out and was having a hard time getting the old stove removed, the chimney pipe was caught on the back of the stove. I suggested using a hammer to bang the flange down since I was afraid he was going to ruin either the chimney pipe or my ceiling by pulling so hard. Jared responded "I don't want to ruin the stove"...what? I thought my stove was no good and couldn't be repaired? RED FLAG! He got the stove out and it was taken away by another employee. My new stove was installed and Jared appeared ready to leave. I asked about fixing the hole/leak in my roof. He reluctantly put a ladder to the side of my roof, climbed it and just stood there. I have a metal roof, which I did when he came out to make sure he could fix the leak, but now it seemed he didn't want to go on it. I suggested he go up by way of my 2nd floor deck to the peak since it was easier. His response " I'm not sure I have a ladder that will do that, do you?" Seriously he was trying to make me be the one that didn't have the right equipment for HIS job! I finally got him up on the roof where he immediately dropped his caulking gun off the edge. I went and got it for him. He didn't add or replace any flashing at all. He filled the hole with caulking, said that would fix it. I was furious. My old stove was gone, I had a $2000 new stove and he thinks caulking is a permanent fix for a hole in a roof. he left and I immediately called Rockport Mechanical and their response was "We're not chimney people. If you want a chimney person you'll have to call one". ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I think this should have been what I was told when I called to set up an appt to come and look at a leaking chimney/roof, not after I had invested over $2000 on a new stove because you said you could fix the leak. I have now had to have almost a $1000 of work done to fix their shoddy work, including replacing the rubber boot which was inside my attic space and filled with rainwater, that Jared didn't notice. Jared also neglected to make sure the liner in my chimney went thru the roof as is code but also required by the stove manufacturer for the warranty. So, yes, my warranty would have been void from day 1 with their install. They are horrible, will lie to you and take no responsibility for their crappy work. They also operate under the name Seacoast Energy. You've been warned, if you hire them after reading this good luck. I have also since found out parts were and still are available for my old stove. I think Jared wanted a nice stove for himself so he lied. Jared Libby is also listed on their website as their Chimney System Installer for metalbestos/ICC chimneys....but they don't do chimneys. read more

I have had recent and extensive experience with Rockport Mechanical technicians that work on oil-fired boilers. I have had at least three different technicians come to my house for the same problem and none of them were able to fix things properly and certainly they were all incredibly inefficient.I have had oil-fired boilers in many homes over the last 40 years and I've had many companies work on these boilers in many different states where I have lived. I can truthfully say that the technicians that work for Rockport Mechanical are some of the least experienced and most confused technicians I've ever come across in my entire life and I would strongly advise everyone living in Midcoast Maine to stay away from this company or you will pay dearly for work that accomplishes nothing and probably breaks other parts. The technicians don't know what they're doing and they waste time and money. I was charged almost $1,000 in labor costs just to figure out why my boiler wasn't working properly. It turned out that the boiler was working fine and it was just some valves and a pump that were not functioning properly and the technicians took over a month and three visits to figure that out. My cost for these fellows to come to my house three times was $1,000 in labor. Any other boiler technician I've dealt with in the last 40 years would have solved this problem in under an hour and I would have paid $100 instead of $1,000. I get the impression that Rockport Mechanical Management has directed their technicians to purposely drag out the time that it takes and to overcharge customers severely for the labor and materials. I was also billed for many many hours for work that never occurred. Instead of charging me for 5 hours they charged me for 10 hours. I would say not only beware of Rockport Mechanical and Seacoast Energy, but never, ever deal with them or you'll be sorry. read more

after reading the previous review from 2015 I wish I had heeded the advice of the complainer, do not use this company, especially for plumbing needs. This is the most dysfunctional company I've come across, I reviewed my plans for a new bathroom in an addition I was building this summer with the lead plumber, I presumed he was a plumber, but later his subordinate told me he "wasn't a plumber", this came up when the installer and I discussed details about installing the drain for a shower pan. I was presented an estimate for the plumbing work by the lead guy that I rejected in favor of a T&M agreement that I thought would suit me better...BIG MISTAKE! these guys know one thing for sure and that is how to take advantage of a T&M agreement for all the owner will tolerate. Slowest plumber in my 40 years of construction experience, ultimately fired them for plumbing needs, HVAC agreement still in place though, even though I had to reinstall all the air intake and exhaust for the boiler install that was terminated at the outside of the house with a lopsided fitting. I have pictures of this as it was presented to me as a finished installation....do not walk away from this company...RUN read more

Do not hire this business for anything! The owner, George Haselton, is very unprofessional, very dishonest, poor workmanship, can go on forever. We had him bid out a project, never got back to us on time and was expensive. Went with another contractor. Later, hired him against advice from others, because he does come off a nice honest man. He has no clue what he is doing. He should not be in this type of business. Ended up hiring someone else to fix his mistakes George made. The whole mess could have been avoided if George knew what he was doing. Ended up getting a large bill from him. Almost went to court with him, paid the bill to get him out of our life. He is a very dishonest, unprofessional human being. He will never own up to his mistakes. He does not like outsiders (anyone from outside Maine), we learned this from an email from him to us.
