Heading to Boise ID and had mapped a Tesla charging station to stop at. When we pulled up the Rockhouse sign was a beautiful vision. We all needed to stretch our legs and get a cup of coffee. Plugged the car in and walked across the lot to the Rockhouse. This was more than I expected. Not only was it a little coffee house but also a charming little store. It had various local products and the usual tourist trinkets people buy on vacation. Super cute. The server was super friendly and talkative. This place had more than just coffee. Shakes, slushies, ice cream, floats. I settled for a triple shot affogato with vanilla. It the spot. Hung out for 20 minutes while the car charged. There's also a neat old schoolhouse next door. Wish it was open to look inside. Looking in from the windows it looked super cool inside. Definitely don't drive by this place. read more

After leaving Burning Man and on my way to a gold prospecting event I found myself needing to gas up. I stopped down the street at the gas station and asked the guy who works there about the coffee house. He suggested huckleberry ice cream. I sat outside and enjoyed my breakfast burrito and coffee as well as people watching and conversation with some of the locals. Even though I now live in LA, I grew up in a small midwest farming village so I felt very at ease (and a bit nostalgic) sitting there. Church had let out and the place had gotten busy by the time in went back in for my ice cream, but the young lady who was working had it all under control. I did a little shopping while I waited for the line to shorten and bought some honey to take home. I had a scoop of cappuccino ice cream and a scoop of the huckleberry! Both were so good. From the warm welcome of Sarah, the amazing manager of Rockhouse, to the ambiance of the location, this was hands down and incredible experience! So incredible, we will be featuring the amazing coffee experience on our channel, Walmart Truckers Wife, and had to offer this review, We walked into this establishment after an overnight stay on the truck. A simple trip for coffee turned into an experience. Upon first step, we were greeted by Sarah her offered her warm smile and ever so welcoming greeting followed by her amazing barista talents. I personally fell in love with Rockys Way, a culmination of caramel mocha sensation that leaves the palette in high satisfaction. As you sip away at the amazing coffee, sit for a while to take in the ambiance of the quaint history offered around you. The history of the building, the city, the friendliness of the community as they trickle in one by one, each of them warmly greeting you. It was a blissful moment. Don't skip the opportunity to take a piece of the experience with you as you prepare to exit, as the desire to stay will surely keep you there longer than you anticipate. But, when you do prepare to leave, you will have a nice array of memoirs to take with you and it will be bagged with that lovely smile that Sarah offers as she bids you farewell and bags your items. If you are traveling to or from Jordan Valley be sure to stop at the Rockhouse. This place deserves every 5 Star review it gets. Unfortunately I had ZERO Sprint cell service here but luckily the Rockhouse HAS WIFI I was able to get a good connection inside but not much outside on the porch. But that's ok. I was glad for the brief connection to restart my GPS! We're not coffee drinkers but we are ICE CREAM Aficionados! This Espresso ice cream is the best coffee ice cream I've ever found. They make an Espresso Milkshake with ice cream and a shot of Espresso that I can only imagine is a true coffee lovers dream milkshake. I bet it's hugely popular all summer. We like to sample flavors so we also tasted the Maple Nut and it's very good BUT THE SALTED CARAMEL ICE CREAM IS FABULOUS. Mint Chip was well, mint chip...kinda normal. The Lemon Merengue was not lemony enough for me. We finally agreed on Salted Caramel on the bottom to savor it last...Espresso in the middle and mint chip on top. If I'd done it over I'd have skipped the mint and put Salted Caramel on top too. It's really great if you go for those Caramel flavors. At least Taste it! It's easy to miss this spot if you're just zooming thru town so best to route your gps to it! Or possibly just look for the only place in the middle of a picturesque field with lots of vehicles parked! Even big rigs stop along the road. And YES their restrooms ARE unforgettable! The sweetest woman served us. I feel terrible I didn't catch her name. She was a bubbly and warm blonde with 3 kiddos. Anyways she was so kind and sweet, she chatted with us while she made us some delicious lattes. The coffee was good little sweet but warm and the pickup we needed. The road between Boise and Reno is long and dusty, and the Owyhee Country in particular is filled with wide open spaces, rolling hills, jagged cliffs, and lonely farms. So here in the little hamlet of Jordan Valley is a true oasis in the desert if ever there was one. I can tell any travelers heading through here to plan to stop for a bit and stretch your legs. But be vigilant, as you can blink and miss it. And be careful when parking, too, since the main drag in town is the rural highway. However, once you get inside, you are in for a real treat. This place is festooned with all sorts of cool decorations and knick-knacks for sale. Candies, cups, soaps, and all sorts of other things line the shelves, and I was certainly tempted by a few of the items. Stepping up to the counter, I quickly perused the menu. They have most of your standard sort of cafe options. Quite good coffee and espresso drinks, teas, blended concoctions like frappes and milkshakes. They also have a couple more special, in-house beverages as well. Various snacks and baked goods are on the counter for those who are a bit hungry. However, if you are in need of a snack, then you might consider grabbing an ice cream cone to help take the edge off the long, hot journey. With snack and beverage in hand, you might as well take a seat and enjoy it. There are a few comfy seats on the inside with some reading materials. But if it's a pleasant day, definitely take a seat outside on one of the porch chairs or in the garden. There is something to be said about taking the time to just sit and relax, in this coffeehouse that is about as far from any other coffeehouse as you can get. Maybe have another round for the road, too. Also, before heading out again, make sure to check out their quirky yet unforgettably decorated restrooms. You cannot go wrong making this your pit stop along Highway 95. It is a rare occasion that brings me up through this neck of the woods, but I am certainly excited whenever I do if for no other reason than to stop in here again and liven up the trip. A truly excellent cafe, with very friendly staff, and delicious coffee. This is pretty much the definition of a hidden gem, and I would highly recommend it to anybody. Don't miss it! read more

Very comfortable setting inside, so go in, order, relax and enjoy. They also offer free WiFi, which is a plus since there is no Verizon coverage in this area. read more

I stopped by here last May 2019 on a trip across country using out of the way roads. It totally blew me away that this little oasis was here. I had just had a late breakfast at the cafe where Hwy 95 takes a hard right going South. I stopped in the coffee shop, and I had a latte and enjoyed the front room a bit and the ability to buy things to support them. I think my disappointment was trying to purchase t shirt or mugs that said their name and location. I 100% recommend this.I hope the locals support them so they make it. read more

their rockaccino chiller is delicious but when I got home and checked my recipe I tipped on my coffee drink and the items I bought( honey and a coloring book). a total of 3.71 on a 6.00 drink, more than a 50%tip. my bad on not checking the recipe. just want to warn people to make sure you don't tip on the items you buy. they totaled my whole bill then turned the screen towards me for my choice to percentage. it has left a bad taste on my mouth, I will not be giving them my business again. read more

oasis : something serving as a refuge, relief, or pleasant change from what is usual, annoying, difficult, etc.: Little Coffee House on the Prairie.... and not a moment too soon! 5 stars for being cute, friendly and for just existing in the middle of no-mans land! If there was ever a need for an oasis, route 95 in Oregon would be the place. The 255 mile trek up this 2 lane highway between Winnemucca, NV and Boise, Idaho is a tedious 4 hour journey. This does not include the drive from Reno to Winnemucca which also tests ones alertness skills on yet another monotonous 4 hour journey. The drive through western Oregon however is a beautiful example of how vast the western plains are and also how desolate. If you like big skies ( I do), wide open ranges and not a house, store or 7Eleven within 100 miles, then western Oregon is your place. However, it is a loooong drive. And then about two thirds of the way, up pops a tiny town. There along the highway a sign speaks to you asking; "Haven't you driven long enough without a cup of coffee"? The coffee house is so charming and welcoming even Hansel and Gretal couldn't resist. Step inside and you are greeted by a comfy, homelike cafe that also is a gift shop and cultural center. Cracker Barrel, be envious! Of course the rest rooms are the first thing many people will utilize. The woman's restroom has beautiful art murals made with tile and rocks and commissioned by an artist from Boise. There are several pieces of art that make you want to linger, and also scratch your head as you realize this is a really cool place...out here? Then you must peek in the men's restroom to view the art. Men, you need to ask for a tour and see this art in the woman's room. What else have you got to do? The coffee is strong ( you need it) and freshly ground. There are several sweets offered and rich high quality ice cream. Sip your caffeine inside and chat with other lonesome drivers or sit out under the trees on a grassy patio. Sip and marvel at this little town and this oasis here in what seems like an endless trip, which it is. Really great coffee in the middle of BFE. I had the pleasure(?) Of working here for part of a summer and Skinners was definitely the nright part to every day. When you're working outside in JV in July and August and it's 90-something degrees (or more), an iced mocha really hits the spot. You can imagine how happy we were to not only find a coffee shop in a town of about 20 people but then to come to find he makes really great coffee. It made that summer bearable. I've never been a huge coffee shop person, and normally wouldn't have considered stopping in a place like Rockhouse. However, we had gotten some hiking advice from a J.V. resident and wanted to 'return the favor' by supporting the economy there. Rockhouse was excellent. Sitting down with a cup of the Rocky Way (it was delicious) and a warm cinnamon roll after a day of snowshoeing in the mountains was perfect. The atmosphere is very comfortable and yes the restrooms are quite unique. We were the only customers so we spent our time there talking to the barista, Ace, about life in and around Jordan Valley. He was very friendly and the service was fantastic. I'm not sure when we'll be up in little old Jordan Valley again but I know where we will stop to warm up when we go. read more

The first public restroom on Highway 95 between Nevada and Idaho. It's a long drive through the desert with no rest areas. Which makes for very "unforgettable restrooms". :-) On the first visit, I had a chai which I believe was Oregon Chai from concentrate. As to the coffee, on the second visit I had a mocha and thought it a bit weak. But lots of interesting posters on the wall, a fireplace, and a great seating area out front make for an interesting stop. read more

This is such a charming gem in Jordan valley ! I love stopping here, everyone is friendly and they have a great selection of drinks and homemade foods to go. The coffee is great and I had a delicious and refreshing lemonade and lavender drink (1/2 sweet) that I regret not getting in the larger size. We drove up to Oregon by driving through Reno and up north through Nevada, into Idaho, then west into Oregon. The stretch into Nevada was really dreary but coming into Jordan Valley and finding this place was a real treat. It's a dinky little stone house-- really cute-- and they've got good coffee, ice cream, local interest books, gifts and posters of the area. The cutest little rock house ever! It's a real historic house converted to a trendy coffee shop/ice cream parlor. It's a must stop along the long hwy 95. We were traveling from boise Idaho to Winnemucca Nevada and made this our halfway stop to stretch our legs! After leaving Boise by 7:00 AM, we usually hit this spot just in time for a double mocha. You'll need the caffeine jolt to get you through the next 9 hours the back home to the Bay Area. The coffee is good. They have a great gift shop with lots of fun and creative merchandise. But the pièce de résistance of this place is the restrooms. For us Portlandians, this place is in the middle of nowhere, and that's the first fine feature of it. You might think that nothing good could be sitting in the middle of nowhere - but you would be incorrect. I'm a coffee snoot and this place serves a decent cup - I know, I was sleep deprived and kissed by the sun, in the wilds drinking cowboy coffee - and so I got this place wrong. But I'm writing to tell you that this place rocks! O yeah - while I was ordering coffee, one of the two woman working pulled fresh cinnamon rolls out of the oven and I bought half a dozen!
