I didn't take a tour of the mill (which the park volunteers and staff do offer throughout the day) but I did walk through it and read the information in it about the history of the mill. Definitely enjoyed exploring and learning. That said, I was really there for the trails, so I spent most of my day hiking. I took a loop trail down from the mill and back (with a detour up a short trail to some falls) and it was great! I love being outside and I love a good challenge; these trails were not paved or even at all and I had a great workout navigating them. During hydration breaks I'd find a nice rock to sit on by the water, which was wonderful. It was noisy as heck by the mill because of the families, but the further out I got the more peaceful it got. Definitely met my goal of unplugging for a day during my trek on the trails. I want to come back in the future and begin to try to walk the Slippery Gorge Trail, as it sounds like the gorge is another beautiful part of the park. But that is definitely a long term goal, because that trail is not a short one! I loved visiting this park and I'd be back for sure. To everyone else, PLEASE remember water and wear the proper footwear - while I enjoyed my walk in the park, these trails are definitely not a walk in the park!

While working in Beaver County I have passed this sign to Buttermilk Falls countless times, but…read morenever had occasion to stop until yesterday. It was a gorgeous, sunny, unseasonably warm March day & I was the first car in the tiny dirt parking area on the left as soon as you turn in. The Falls is now directly across from the new entrance to the Pennsylvania Turnpike. There is a big stone covered with graffiti on the right. After you park, you just hop out and hit the path and follow the sound of gushing water. it is a short distance to the Falls, but it is uphill and it is steep and rocky and this is not a suitable path for anybody with physical limitations of any sort. It can also be dangerous for young children. It's very beautiful and it is worth the hike up. If you're sturdy footed (muddy & rocky), you can walk right behind the falls and it's quite beautiful. Highly recommended for a sightseeing but I'm sure it gets crowded and warmer weather.

Note: the cabins have nice showers and furniture but there are no other things aside from a refrigerator. Stove with oven, and microwave. Bring your own plates, cutlery bedding and glasses/cups. We were aware so we brought a press for coffee. Great park for families.

I hiked the Sunken Garden Trail that is near the park office. It was a pretty cool hike. It goes along the lake and around in different loops through some woods. Along my hike I ran into a hollowed out tree, a swamp and wetland, lichen, skunk cabbage, blooming yellow trees, and several bridges. It was also cool when I hear the call of Spring peeper frogs making high pitched noises as I exited. I wanted to see some Spring peepers, but they hide very well. I went by the giant snow man that usually sells ice cream and snow cones, but they were not open for the season yet. It still looks cool.

We were…read moreespecially lucky to visit during the "Celebrate the Bloom Festival," which included nature explorations (i.e. bird, butterfly and wildflower walks), demonstrations like snake tagging (my son loved this), local artisans (with honeybee hives on display and a log chimney that shot out fire (another hit with my son) and food trucks. They were running shuttles to check out the one room schoolhouse. We almost skipped this but we are so glad we went. The amount of restoration and hard work that went into that building is truly impressive. We got to talk with volunteers who told us stories on what it was like to attend that school and how it spanned grades from young to older kids. It is a must visit. Finally, before leaving, we visited their conservation center, which included a little shop and several displays on the importance of cultivating and conserving native plants and wildlife. There are also trails that leave from the center. It's one of those places that no matter if you have kids or not, you'll enjoy this spot.

Taking him there has gotten him on a more social level than just running around our yard. Also I can walk him around the park and let him be as active as he should be. Food They have a snack bar with the typical food you would expect (hotdogs, nachos, pretzels, popcorn) you can purchase a cup and/or a popcorn bucket for $5 a piece and get refills all summer for $1. Pool The pool is amazing! Perfect place to bring children with two kids areas. The have a small rock climbing wall in the deep end by the diving boards. Three slides, one of which is very tall. Children 12 and under can take a swim test to be allowed to swim in the deep end and go on the diving boards and rock climbing wall. You are allowed to bring floating things like noodles etc. which was really nice. You can only bring goggles that don't have the nose part (scuba goggles?) regular goggles are okay. The deep end is 5ft and the diving area is 12ft. I believe I saw that they rent out life vests for children and they also sell swimming diapers. Adult Swim Depending on how you feel about this it will either be good or bad. At the start of every hour they make all of the children get out of the pool for 15 minutes. The only people allowed in the pool are adults and children under 5 who are accompanied by an adult within arms reach. Seating They have chairs that you can use with foot rests and little tables but you have to get here pretty early to get one unless you see someone leaving you can take theirs. I would recommend bringing chairs and blankets to sit and relax on. There is plenty of space to spread out and not be right next to someone else on the grass. They have a few covered areas that you can set up at if there is space left. They also have 2 covered picnic table areas with 4 picnic tables (although I'm sure those fill up fast) Parks We don't have children so we didn't go to the parks but it looked like there was a lot to do and that it was well maintained. Crowds We went on a Sunday and there were a lot of people there but it didn't feel "crowded". We had to wait in line to get snacks but when we wanted a drink or popcorn refill there was a separate line which was nice. Conclusion- we will defiantly be back it was a great day!

The facilities are well maintained, but the stars here are the wildlife. There is a 12 mile paved bike trail that circumnavigates the lake. The trail has nice views of the lake, depending on the season.
