I mainly worked with Dan Lombardi, but I was also occasionally scheduled with Veronica Downs. Gale from the front desk was always super helpful in regards to working with me and my schedule and finding me time slots. Before I had injured myself, I used to love to run, but after I couldn't jog or even walk one block before having to hobble back home in defeat. Dishes being my main chore at home, was painful to stand more than 30 minutes or even lay down for extended periods of time. I have always had a bad lower back due to being born with a tethered spinal cord and having surgery to correct it when I was an infant. What brought me to SPT Dover was I hurt my lower back on an Assault Runner in the gym this past winter. It felt like my hips and spine were compressing on my nerves, thus, shooting pain down my left leg whenever I'd sit, stand, lay down, etc. When I finally was able to find a new PCP, I was recommended/ referred to Somersworth Physical Therapy; partially because of their glowing reputation, but also because it was conveniently in the same building. Dan also took my initial financial concerns seriously from the start of my intake- I didn't want to spend a fortune on PT, nor did I have a fortune to spend on it... but I was also determined to get rid of my pain by any means necessary. I took doing my homework exercises seriously and it genuinely made a difference in both my pain level and recovery timeline. While I believe that dry needling definitely aided in loosening my compressed scar tissue, it also was unfortunately not covered by insurance. However when it came time, Dan remembered by initial concerns and suggested we just give it 4-5 sessions- if it didn't work or help, we'd stop. Through various exercises, stretches, massage, Graston massage, cupping, and dry needling we were able to get my lower back back to normal. I was even able to continue working out at my CrossFit gym by just eliminating or scaling certain movements with Dan's guidance. I was able to "graduate" from PT in approximately 13 sessions from late June through August. Highly recommend the Somersworth PT Dover office! They are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Hopefully I don't need PT again anytime soon, but if I do, I'd definitely return to SPT Dover.

I go regularly at home in Baltimore to a community acupuncture clinic, and I have to say that I really wish Portsmouth Community Acupuncture was in MY city instead! It was a fantastic experience. Since probably a lot of you have never tried acupuncture, here's how the whole thing went: I filled out extensive forms detailing my health history and complaints -- for me, my biggest concerns are/were depression and anxiety, migraines, and a sprained ankle. Emily sat with me to discuss all of these in detail before the session and asked lots of questions, then we went into the poking room. The space is beautiful and relaxing -- a vaulted ceiling, open space, recliners arranged in a large circle. They tip all the way back. Emily took pulses, swabbed the points of insertion and proceeded to stick me with LOTS of needles -- many more than I'm used to (the more, the better!). I was covered with blankets and left for about an hour, but I had a buzzer in case I needed her. When the needles were removed, I felt fantastic as I usually do when done. I would highly, highly recommend this place to anyone considering acupuncture. It's a very peaceful experience (one woman in the room was conked out and snoring) and can really help with a variety of conditions. Emily is attentive, genuine, and listens well to your concerns. Two pieces of advice: First, make an appointment! She does take walk-ins but the practice is very busy, at least in summer, and you may end up waiting awhile if you just show up as I did. And to get in, you go through the door that looks private next to the running store, and take the elevator up to the 4th floor.

I started going to Bonnie at the Dover location in May and cannot tell you how much of a difference…read moreshe has made in my life! I injured my hip in a hard fall on a snow and ice-packed trail in Dec 2021. I went through the standard diagnostic and treatment routine of x-rays, MRI, a steroid injection into my hip and regular PT with a great therapist at a hospital-owned PT facility. That PT was what you usually expect - minimal soft tissue manipulation (usually with some weird spoontype thing; not even with the therapist's hands!), ultrasound, lots of physical exercising on bikes and strength training with weights and machines. Although my therapist was great, the PT didn't help. I found Lighthouse PT and scheduled an intake. One session with Bonnie and my hip felt better - I couldn't believe it. Lighthouse PT's approach to treatment is completely different from traditional PT, and honestly, I was skeptical at first. Bonnie's treatment regime consists of light touch, very slow soft tissue manipulation (almost like Bowen work) and no machines! She explained that we had to get my inflamed muscles and tissues to calm down and work together in my hip joint as a unit. She said that until everything got calmed down, released and working together, that the standard "exercise and strength train the heck out of it" PT I had been doing before was only making it worse. When I leave a session with Bonnie, I'm able to walk normally and my pain is almost gone. I'm so used to the traditional, hardcore PT with machines and weights approach that it doesn't seem possible that Bonnie's gentle approach could really make that much of a difference, but it does! I'm so grateful that my insurance covers this and that I found Bonnie at Lighthouse PT. I can assure you that you will notice a difference in pain and functionality after just one session at Lighthouse PT, and that their treatment practices are nothing like what you've experienced before with traditional PT. I wish I had found Lighthouse PT (and Bonnie) months ago!
