Since I flew a red eye into MAN, I was pretty hungry by the time the restaurant opened. The waitress took pity on me and opened a little early to take my lunch order. Had the cheese and bacon hamburger. I was starving, so it tasted fantastic. Came back here for dinner to see if my thoughts on the food would change. Had the rib eye, side salad and the cauliflower fritters. All were very good. There's also several tables outside with umbrellas over them for shade. Hotel: first hotel I've ever stayed in that doesn't have a/c in the rooms!!! Makes a little more sense, when a friend of mine in the local area said that they've been having an extraordinary streak of heat and days without rain. Regardless, in room a/c is a must! If your travel plans bring you to Rochdale, this is worth a visit.

Had a quick drink in the bar which has a nice pub feel to it and a big open fire that would be perfect in winter. Breakfast was fresh and you had choice of cooked or continental or both if you were feeling hungry/ greedy but was busy at 9am on Sunday morning. It's served in the main restaurant. Heard good things about Fallen Angels Italian ( which at first i thought was a dodgy night club) restaurant so will need to come back to try that!

The Bar and Grill have perhaps an old-fashioned menu: prawn cocktail, and steak feature are on the menu, but they are both well executed. The menu is much more extensive than just steak. The scampi for example is unusual and exceptional: finest quality scampi lightly battered and deep-fried. Served as a starter or main meal it is light, tastes great and not a single bread-crumb in sight. The food is good value with an evening meal costing around £15-25 with early-bird and other special offers during the week. The wine list is reasonable with most bottles costing in the range £13-19.

There is also a museum inside this gigantic building. It is the museum of the Manchester Regiment. They have many things on offer and lots of school kids go and have a wander and learn about what their grandad did etc. It is fun to go and look at all the history! Not too dissimilar to the aforementioned this place has a function room or events and is of the buffet restaurant variety. The food is of decent quality, much better than those student chinese buffet style scenarios (I know that's not saying much but still..) My personal fav were the chicken pakoras... not too oily and the meat was very tender and delicious. Not much else to say apart from the fact that there's ample parking space behind joint. Definitely place to go if you're starving and don't want to fork out more than £20 for a hearty filling meal.

If there is any Irish in you, then you will love the Irish Heritage Centre. This pub is one of the…read moreliveliest pubs, and does very well out of its Irish heritage. It also consistently schedules a fantastic range of live music, from Irish folk bands, to more modern Indie style groups who perform a range of covers. I once ended up joining a group of drunken Irish - such memories. Definitely have a look in though - you never know what will happen.

Review 500! Wowzers…read more I'm chuffed that it's this local landmark, as we walked up to Peel Monument on what was probably the loveliest, sunniest first day of Spring that I can remember. Occupying a prominent position on Holcome Hill, you can see the monument from miles around and it serves as a beacon for walkers or those of us that just enjoying getting up to it "because it's there". It's a memorial to Sir Robert Peel, born in Bury, who twice served as Prime Minister and is regarded as the father of the modern British police. On a clear day, which we were lucky coincided with our visit, you can look out across the Greater Manchester landscape to the towns, villages and moorlands beyond. Sit down on the grass and take it all in. There are public footpaths leading up to it from Ramsbottom; we didn't need a map as you could see it above you most of the time. Alternatively, there are lanes you can park on further up the hill as it's a bit of a climb, but definitely worth visiting.
