First Vantage is a brand within First Greater Manchester, they operate routes on the guided busway from Leigh/Atherton into the city centre, and then onto the MRI, connecting Leigh with the city centre in 44 minutes, saving a good 50% of the journey length really is great for Leigh, without it, it would have been pretty deserted and it does make good use of the old railway tracks. On other routes which aren't the premium/flagship service, I still notice buses being delayed to the point they're often unreliable, especially on the 59, I still noticed buses being typically dirty (This is common on Go North West who bought First's Greater Manchester depot and still use their buses - maybe it's just a problem with the floor/seating they installed getting dirty easily?). Again, there doesn't seem to be much investment on new buses throughout their routes, again it's a shame to see Stagecoach and Diamond North West, the latter took over First's Bolton depot and brought in 163 brand new buses, while First use the same old buses they've had for years. First, do have an app which allows you to track your buses in real-time which is pretty good, this is nothing new however and is basically the same as most other bus operators in the region including Diamond North West and Go North West. 3*- Great for Vantage, the app is handy, but First wouldn't be my first choice of operator, even if they aren't in such a diabolical state as they were which haunted my daily travels in the past. Upgraded rating mainly down to the reliability/comfort of Vantage services V1 and V2. (Review #100 of 2021!)

First buses are the main reason I hate coming to work…read more There are several reasons for this. The first thing has to be the price, it's ridiculous! The cheapest journey costs £1.70. £1.70!! Even if you're only going three stops! A weekly pass costs over £15! The second reason has to be how ridiculously unreliable they are. Today I waited 35 minutes for one! The drivers are rude, they seem to be the most miserable people on earth. I will honestly try and get to a destination any other way before getting on a First bus. Avoid if you can!!

I've used this station on a couple of occasions now, although I prefer to use Bowker Vale as it's easier for me to get home, it is useful that cars can pretty much park right outside the station if you're being booked up or looking to get an Uber. The 135 bus service, also from Manchester - Bury also passes the station. There is a small car park right outside the station which is free for Metrolink passengers but with only nine spaces, it isn't reliable and pretty much always appears to be full, even in the evening. The station has two island platforms, you'd have to go up and down the stairs (or lifts) to get between them. The station is very dark and poorly lit pretty much throughout so doesn't feel like the safest or most welcoming place, especially at night when trams become less frequent anyway. 3* - It's a basic tram station at the end of the day, the location is great if you're heading to Heaton Park, and the car park is handy too if you're lucky enough to get one of the few parking spaces, but doing more to improve the safety in the station at night is a must whether it's better lighting, security or both.

Since 1979 Rochdale has just had 3 platforms, with trains going to the likes of Leeds and Manchester Victoria. The only reason I chosen to go from Rochdale is because of cheap tickets, infact all other local stations charged me more than Rochdale as it was just about £10.75 for an Adult return ticket to Leeds. If you do go to this staton, I would advise going to one of the shops across the way or stopping at one of the garages or newsagents you pass when you come here, I actually passed 3 garages on the way here from Middleton, funny enough from 3 different companies. One thing I don't understand is the size of the lift because it is absaloutly massive, the biggest I have ever been in, even bigger tham those at larger stations like Manchester, Leeds and most certainly shopping centres. Rochdale is a station I can't give many stars to simply because its facilities are so poor and it really isn't a nice train station, as you walk in to the staircase / lift. I only give 2 stars because of the cheaper tickets I found from this station, honestly it is a dump really and I couldn't wait to get out of here when I was waiting for my train to Leeds and after I got my train back. Northern Rail mainly operate this station and their commitment to always being late certainly doesn't help push up the rating of the station but that is another review.

The train station is a bit dire. Rochdale's a bit dire to be fair. The surrounding area is grim, and at night, when I'm often boarding and alighting my trains, if I don't have a ride waiting for me, it's a case of bide your time until the ride shows and make sure you're in view of CCTV. The train station itself only has a couple of platform directions, you go up the stairs and head left or right, one going into Manchester and one heading out of Manchester, so it's easy to navigate around. There are no self service machines, and despite a few members of staff floating around behind the one presumes bullet proof glass, there's always a queue for tickets, and the fear that you'll miss your train. Should your train be delayed, there's a grand total of not a lot in the way of entertainment or supplements, so pack a drink and some sustenance. When it's cold it's FREEZING! Even waiting inside the station it's ruddy cold. Actually there aren't many positives to Rochdale Station, aside from it's convenience and cheaper value for money status.
