In my case, the anesthesiologist attempted to administer spinal anesthesia twice without success. As a result, general anesthesia was necessary. This became a frightening experience for me because I felt the facility was not adequately equipped to handle the situation.
One of the main reasons people consider having surgery outside the United States is the significantly lower cost. However, my experience made me realize that a lower price does not necessarily mean better value when your health and safety are at risk.
Although the final surgical results were acceptable, the physical pain, emotional stress, and safety concerns made the overall experience extremely difficult.
My biggest concern is what could happen if a serious complication occurs and the medical facility does not have the necessary equipment, resources, or emergency support to respond appropriately.
In my opinion, choosing this route can feel like taking a gamble with your health. No financial savings are worth putting your life at unnecessary risk.
I am sharing my personal experience not to discourage anyone from seeking medical care abroad, but to encourage others to carefully investigate the facility, the qualifications of the medical team, the anesthesia protocols, and the availability of emergency care before making a decision.
Today, I am planning another procedure, but this time I have decided to have it performed in the United States.
My experience taught me a valuable lesson: The true cost of surgery is not just the amount you pay. It also includes the pain, the risks, the quality of care, and, most importantly, your safety.
