I went in to have an eye test and…read moredespite being able to read to the bottom of the chart, and being able to read the close up print off the book I was still told I needed glasses. I spent rather a lot of money buying a pair and getting a pair of sun glasses free. However, a year later I was told my prescription had changed and I'd have to buy more as the lens wouldn't fit the old frames. Smelling a rat I went to another opticians and was told the glasses I has had such a small prescription it was hardly noticeable, and that I didn't need glasses at all. So I have never been back.

They are very efficient and through, and they stock a wide range of frames. Several times I have had to take back frames which have been broken by the children, and they have fixed then without asking for any payment. They have drinks facilities while you wait, although they seem to run on time for the most part, so there has never been time to use these facilities. The opticians is set on two floors, with a lift to reach the upper floor.

The store in Kendal is bright and modern with lots of special equipment for performing the all-important eye tests as well as qualified optometrists who can examine you thoroughly and check that you're wearing the right lenses. I've been very pleased with them so far. One advantage of Specsavers is that, although they encourage you to join one of their schemes (and that could be a better deal in some cases) you are free to buy contact lenses from their website once you have your prescription. That suits me as the prices are extremely reasonable, plus you can order exactly the quantity you need (or can afford in my case).
