I have had many 'farm to table' meals in my life but never have i gotten the chance to frolic through the vegetable garden before sitting down to eat its produce. And maybe I shouldn't have froliced but it was just too tempting. This restaurant seems like a secluded fairytale cottage with a beautiful garden and wine grapes surrounding it. Our large group had almost everything on the menu and it was all equally adored. The waiter was very accommodating with our individual food issues (allergic to sesame, can't have peppers) which made us all feel at ease. I had the scallops to start, the trevalla for the main, and then the chocolate cake to finish along with tidbits from everyone else's plate. My one food recommendation, since everything on the menu is amazing, is that if you get the valley rib eye for two be sure you are hungry. Eat here. Frolic, they won't mind. read more

Robert's at Pepper Tree - vegetable garden at Roberts - Pokolbin, NSW

Truly an astonishingly good meal here. The surroundings don't hurt a bit, of course. A beautiful old cottage which is a stunning venue, overlooking a magnificent kitchen garden. Five of us rocked up here for lunch on a mini tour of the Hunter, and we were very pleasantly surprised with the fantastic food, and beautiful presentation. Especially the presentation, artfully done with local produce and flora, perfectly rounding out a staggeringly good wine and outstanding lunch. Around the table we had oysters, lobster, quail, tuna, followed by beef, lamb, pork and fish. None of us could fault a thing, except possibly we waited a bit long for water top ups - but they were pretty busy, so I'll give them a pass on that. The house made bread was incredible... So good. We had a long drive up to the Hunter and stayed overnight. This is where we chose to eat. It was a Sunday night, so not as busy as normal. The staff are very friendly and attentive. This is the second time we've eaten here, and the first time with others so we consider Roberts a special experience. Chef was flexible in that I wanted a full sized pasta dish (I know, but I just really wanted pasta that night) from the entree menu listing - not a problem. Turned out to be the star dish among the four of us (angel hair pasta with chili and spanner crab). The combination of great surrounds, good service and good people make this worthy of coming back a third time. read more

Not much to fault here. Virtually faultless. Beautiful food, attentive friendly service and wonderful location. It's a lovely old house that is added to by the excellent restaurant inside. read more
