After my two dogs were diagnosed with heart murmurs a few years ago, I started to entrust them to Dr. Prosek and his team. From the start they have been knowledgeable, educational and caring with my four legged fur balls. Medication has improved their condition and services have come at a fair cost, for a veterinarian specialist. I was referred to Dr. Prosek by my wonderful regular veterinarian for an evaluation of a heart murmur he detected in my dog. I took my dog to Dr. Prosek's Homestead office in February 2023 for an echocardiogram. I never saw Dr. Prosek, but the tech told me the results were great and to follow up within a year. Prior to my second visit in November 2023, I forwarded the first results to my brother, a veterinarian in another state. He had them reviewed by a specialist, who advised me to find a different cardiologist, as the results from the first visit showed an alarming abnormality in fractional shortening. I had the second echocardiogram done at Dr. Prosek's Miami Beach office. This time the results showed normal fractional shortening. I asked the tech about the discrepancy and he said that it may have been due to a malfunction in the equipment in the Homestead office. When I asked why I was never contacted about the abnormal results, he had no explanation but said he would review the slides from the first visit and contact me. I requested a call from the doctor (whom I still had never seen). I received zero follow up from either the doctor or the tech after making several more calls to his office staff with the same request. Aside from the lack of diligence and professionalism, I have serious concerns about the reliability and accuracy of his office equipment and procedures. After one heck of a roller coaster ride of emotions this week and not knowing what was truly wrong with my baby Dr.Prosek not only gave us hope he walked us through each step and throughly explained what was going on. He gave us a game plan and how we would obtain each step. Long story short... my cat needs an echocardiogram. I made an appointment for last October, but had to reschedule for January (their appointments are like 6 months out). They texted me 2-3 times in between, trying to confirm appointments for OTHER people's pets, so I already thought they were disorganized. Cut to today, the day of my cat's appointment. I thought it was weird that they didn't confirm, being that the appointment pricing starts at 600$. So I called in the morning to confirm for 4pm. They have absolutely no record of his appointment. I understand that mistakes happen but 1) we've been waiting for months 2) I'm concerned for my cat's heart so I can't wait 6 more months 3) I took off from work to attend this appointment that I was offered over the phone when I rescheduled last October and most importantly 4) now I feel they're completely disorganized. The lady on the phone was rude on top of it, and wouldn't even look into what might have happened because they have "so many clients and records." When she offered the cancellation list instead of an appointment in June (we won't even be in miami then and also that's 6 months away), I asked how many people would be ahead of him of the list and she said something to the effect of "that's not really relevant." They should take this lady off of the phones. She has no people skills or empathy. I mean we've been waiting MONTHS here. So the cancellation list isn't a reasonable solution. They MIGHT have an opening that, depending on my job, I MIGHT be able to go to, and I see from other reviews that the doctor doesn't even always show up. But to me, the worst of all is that she couldn't apologize for the mistake. She was like a robot to talk to though, so not sure why I expected her to have a heart. We can just find someone else, since this guy has "so many clients" and all. read more

This doctor is worth his weight in gold! My dog has had heart issues since she was born and not one vet in the tri county area could help us! Over a decade ago I started to visit his office in homestead, north broward, Miami Beach, basically where ever he is I will follow. He is so compassionate as a person and he actually gave me a tutorial on what exactly was wrong with my doggie. This Dr travels all over so his patients are not forced to sit in South Florida traffic. God knows all his patients are willing to drive to Key West if necessary but he bends over backwards for his clients! Again can't stress enough that his Dr has a heart of gold!!! I have had to deal with so many condescending vets that at the end of the day can't even give a diagnosis. This Dr is a cardiologist with years of experience not to mention his father is a respected vet and professor so he has the passion in his blood! I thank all my lucky stars that I found Prosek and I can continue to see my precious Stella everyday! Noel and the young lady whom are his assistants are the sweetest most down to earth individuals. Again so many grumpy unqualified techs out there but the Dr and his staff are a solid A plus plus plus plus! Find another doctor!!!!!!!!!!! I waited TWO MONTHS to see this arrogant man, Dr. Prosek. I arrived this morning for my appointment at 11am. I was greeted by his intern at 11:43am. When I asked where Dr. Prosek was to which he replied "he's not here and coming later." I said, "I'm sorry, but I waited all this time to have my baby see Dr. Prosek and I would like for him to be seen by him." I was told to come back in an hour. When I returned I met with Dr. Prosek and kindly said to him, "if you don't mind, before we get started it's 1pm and I set up an appointment to meet with you, not your intern, and I know you're busy, but I waited two months to see you because my dog isn't well and this is very important to me." Dr.Prosek replied saying "if you have a problem you can go elsewhere but I'm a busy guy and I have a life, that's how it works here." So I left without my dog being seen. I find him to be a nasty, arrogant and insensitive man. It's very sad that he has such little regard for peoples time and people's animals. My experience with Dr. Prosek has been extremely positive. My little chihuahua mix was born with a congenital heart defect and fainted on me several times. Needless to say it scared me to death. The first vet cardiologist I took him to put him on atenolol, a beta blocker, but he continued to faint occasionally. I was informed he'd need an operation to open up the defective valve in his heart. The pressure gradient of the blood flow through the valve was incredibly high, about 220. Dr. Prosek recommended adding Benazepril to my dog's medication regimen. His pressure gradient dropped to 150, a full 70 points and the kind of results you are lucky to get with an operation. My pup has not fainted since starting his new medication regimen. He is not cured, of course, but his condition has stabilized and Dr. Prosek has educated me on danger signals I need to be aware of. Dr. Prosek is very professional, friendly, and cordial as is his staff. I don't recall waiting an undue amount of time during any of my appointments. In fact, I trust Dr. Prosek so much I drive all the way from Pompano Beach to South Miami so he can treat my pup. read more

I am not going to say that Dr Prosek is a good doctor nor am I going to say that he is a bad doctor. However, I will simply state the facts. Monday, Aug.5th I called his office to notify them that my dog was having an episode. I was hoping they would be able to advise me on what to do. I was told someone would call me back within 30 minutes. After no return phone call I called again and was told that they did not believe it was a cardiac issue therefore no one would be returning my call. Tuesday morning I took her to her regular Vet (Dr. Marta Lista at Trail- AMAZING) for observation. It was concluded that she would need further assessment. After over an hour of being left on hold and hung up on five times I finally got through to Dr Prosek's office. I begged and pleaded for an appointment, and thankfully received a phone call a few hours later with a cancellation for the following day. Thursday, Aug.9th at 4:45pm Dr. Prosek examined my dog. She had a blood clot in her left atrium of her heart. Thought this wasn't a cardiac issue????? My dog was brought out to the parking lot where I sat and waited for 3hrs. I was told that Dr. Prosek was going to give me a call to discuss his findings, treatment, and care options, .....I'm still waiting for his call. We were referred to Dr. Prosek by our regular vet due to a heart murmur. We have a 3 1/2 year old male boxer. Our appointment was scheduled at the South Miami location. The entire staff was friendly and kind and gave our dog lots of love and attention. Dr. Prosek and his team were wonderful. They spent nearly 45 minutes with us, going over information, discussing our dog's condition and on what we should and should not do. I never felt pressured to have tests done, to the contrary, Dr. Prosek said it was not necessary. I did decide, for my piece of mind and a baseline, to have an EKG done. The EKG was done in the room with us present and where the Dr. could show us and explain what we were looking at. And, while not cheap, the bill at the end was reasonable and what I expected for having that kind of test. Luckily for us, our dog's murmur was not severe and he was given a clean bill of health. Dr. Prosek and his staff are heaven sent, and the most compassionate team I have ever met. My 11 year old Shih Tzu is still alive today and is going to be turning 12, because of their expertise and optimism in providing the best treatment and care. They have managed to help control her syncope attacks, and constrained the tumor behind her heart from growing any larger with proper treatment, care and observation. Dr. Prosek and his team are so educated, and amazing at what they do. For those individuals who have pets who have issues with tumors, seizures, syncope attacks, etc go visit Prosek. Most doctors advise that when pets are already at this point that putting them down should be considered so the pet won't suffer. All I can say is the Prosek proved otherwise. I now know that anything is possible with proper treatment, giving your pet lots of love, and having an amazing doctor backing you. I consider him the Dali Lama of Pets. By process of research I found Dr. Procek online for the treatment of our 9 year old pomeranian. I was at my wit's end going from vet to vet trying to treat our sick little guy. It culminated with him collapsing and being treat at Aventura Animal hospital in which they triaged him and got him stabilized. I have to say that the care and treatment there was excellent. About 5 months prior to all this I had been given a referral by our regular vet to a veterinary cardiologist in cooper city who told me that he had a grade III heart murmur and that there were no changes and to re appoint in 1 year! Five months later our dog collapsed and had to rushed to the ER. With all that said I am a practicing dental surgeon and know in the world of medicine you don't go from being stable and ok to collapsing!!! I had to get another point of view which brings me to Dr. Procek. Reading up on his background of being a professor at UF and a staff vet at Miami Zoo the medical side of me said to see this doctor. Practicing myself for 26 years I've worked with many physicians, good, not so good and everything in between. All I can say is Dr. Procek is what I would call "A doctor's doctor" My appointment with him was at the Miami Beach Animal Hospital where he sees patients once a month so needless to say I had to wait to get an appointment. The appointment was for 5:30pm and I was seen about 6:45 (a long wait!) However once I got to see him I understood why the wait. From first speaking with his vet tech to his actual exam and assessment his thoroughness, patience and knowledge superseded even human cardiologist's exams! Not only did the first cardiologist not diagnose and treat our dog properly but he was being treated incorrectly. Dr. Procek performed a detailed in-office echo cardiogram with intra-cardiac pressures and pulmonary pressures and determined that in addition to his cardiac issues he had life threateningly high pulmonary hypertension. He immediately changed his course and type of medications and in office gave him an oral dose of Viagra which it turns out as Dr. Procek so detailingly explained was the drug of choice to get our "son" back on track. Dr. Procek spent no less than one hour and a half with us on the exam and treatment, following up with dispensed medications and written explicit and detailed findings and directions. On our drive back home within 30 minutes of Dr. Procek giving an oral dose of viagra, I watched my dog finally in a relaxed state from the effects of the medication. Again after practicing 26 years I can say that Dr. Procek not only knows his profession well but his passion for his patients absolutely shines through in every aspect and I cannot recommend him enough. My Rottweiler, Noah, was diagnosed with a tumor in his heart and severe pericardial effusion in March of 2015 by Dr. Prosek. He has been our cardiologist ever since. Yes, my 11 year old rott is living with his disease almost 2 years later thanks to Dr. Prosek and his wonderful team! 6 months after beginning treatment, Noah was back to throwing around his full-sized truck tire and going out snorkeling with me! Now there's a lot we do at home to help his body cope with the stress of heart disease and reduce its effects on the rest of his body, all of which came from the thorough explanation of the effects of this disease by Dr. Prosek. He is a vet that truly believes in educating the parents (it really takes a lot of the fear out of it when you understand what's going on), and has supported me treating the rest of Noah while he manages the heart. He is wonderful to work with, clear in his explanations, and honest about all prognosis so you always know where you and your baby stand. There has never been a visit Noah and I weren't together for the entire visit, like we are 24/7 in our lives. Noah loves the team there, and is so comfortable with Noel that he falls asleep in his arms without sedation during his heart tap to remove the pericardial fluid buildup! (We love you too, Noel!) After almost 2 years, they feel more like family than vets--to me and to Noah. We had originally gotten the diagnosis of heart failure from his main vet...also found his liver to be 3 times its normal size and in failure from the extra stress of the heart disease. He was given 30 days max to live in February of 2015. Thank god we also got a referral to Dr. Prosek! Here we are now, enjoying life and all its precious moments to the fullest still at the ripe old age of 11. I couldn't be more grateful to the staff there who saved Noah's life. He is my service dog and best friend, and I'm thankful every day to know he has the best care out there with people who genuinely love him.
