This shop is by far my favorite for the hunt of the obscure and eclectic. It's clean and well-organized. It's not easy keeping a place this size practically dust-free, but they manage. And I look for it as I'm a tad fastidious myself. There are many vendors in this shop so I'm not sure if it's the vendor that stages the space or the shopkeep, but bravo! They've filled every nook and cranny; careful or you'll miss something great! The space is enormous, and it's loaded with lovely furniture items in near-mint condition reasonably priced. Prepare to spend a good portion of your day wandering around. The place is a.c. cooled with fans strategically placed to keep the air circulating--wonderful respite from the south Texas heat. They're piping music that'll make you smile around the building as well. I never leave empty-handed. Mental note: I need to bring a truck next time. If you're in the area and so inclined, stop in.

The place is clean and well-lit. Clothes aren't jammed on the racks. The selection isn't gargantuan but it's decent. Nice selection of clean shoes from well-known brands. At least 3 people manning the checkout area so I didn't have to wait long to pay. Lots of parking in front of the store

When o asked the day person in charge he stated that the out the flag up there so they could direct people to the bathrooms. Really! He said people were "Stupid and couldn't read"! Highly disappointed in Castaways! No one seemed to know who was in charge of the six church group that sponsored Castaways! Personally the display of the flag is disrespectful and unpatriotic! All Veterans should consider shopping somewhere else! Arrived at Castaways early Morning on July 2025. Our favorite place to look for great deals at at a reasonable cost for a worthy cause. The only complaint I have, as a Veteran, is the display of the U.S. Flag. The American Flag is displayed above and to the right of the Bathroom. Personally, I would consider that display to dishonor the flag and what it stands for. Perhaps the person who was told to put it up did not take into account what was underneath the Flag, an honest mistake! I would hope that the Manager of Castaways would look into this matter and place the flag in a place showing Dignity and respect. Signed a Veteran!

This was not your average souvenir shop that you find all over the area. There were so many items that I have never seen before any where else inside this single-story retail shop. There were a lot of artisan made craft items from around the country made of food, soap, jewelry, glass, you name it. They actually make a point of not having anything made in China at their shop. They also offer a few charitable items to benefit some worthwhile non-profits. For such a small retail space, they certainly had a lot of intriguing and interesting items that were well merchandised within that space. If you find yourself walking along Austin Street with their line of retail shops, this place is definitely worth stopping in to see.
