Although Heritage Guesthouse is one of the more expensive options in town, it's totally worth it. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The building itself is a beautiful 19th century home lovingly restored in the early 2000s as a guest house. Combined with solid wood interior accents and furniture, the result is a warm and homey atmosphere. ROOM ("Neutral Bay"): Very comfortable mattress and luxurious bedding. Nice, clean bathroom with good shower. KITCHEN: Very good self-serve continental breakfast (cereal, bread, butter, jam and other spreads, coffee, tea, juice) with indoor and quaint outdoor dining area. LOCATION: South West Rocks isn't very big, but Heritage Guesthouse is right across from a nice beach, within walking distance to the local cinema, and a short drive to Trial Bay Gaol, the lighthouse, and the dive shop. The only minor inconvenience is that there is very little parking, and what parking exists is difficult to maneuver in and out of (for a mid-sized SUV).

You would expect that when a group of 8 of you check in they would assist with getting all your luggage to your room which was a big FAIL. The room we stayed in was very clean and had generous rooms. The kitchen was very well appointed and well equipped with what you would expect from a resort. The Buree we stayed in was the family room and it had four bedrooms with three bathrooms, one of which had a spa bath. The free Austar/Foxtel was great for the days that weren't very good weather wise but be warned, the resort offers WIFI but it's very expensive. If you have time to use or need internet access, you may be better off going to your local telco and buying a wifi/3G USB dongle. Plenty of parking but a fair distance from the reception if you have lots of luggage to carry. Although the resort does have use of trolleys. The restaurant overlooking the ocean was very picturesque and the food was very nice and very reasonably priced. Lunchtime time mains were around $15 and very tasty. The many pools on the grounds of the resort meant there was no shortage of cooling off after a day of sight seeing around Coffs Harbour. Even on wet days, the outdoor heated spa baths were very relaxing. Then of course there was the beach which was only a short walk from the resort. A wonderful location for families as there were plenty of things to do. The kids swimming area with water slide was a big hit with my niece. Final analysis: It's an 8 out of 10 for me. As such, it turned out to be a little bit pricier than normal (which is odd because I would have thought the opposite would have been the case, especially if there were rooms available for the night). Earplugs are supplied and you can also ask for a room at the back of the complex. A bit of a drive North from Sydney, but if you have done Jervis Bay and are looking for something…read moreelse, Blueberry Hill at Arakoon would be my choice for a luxury holiday escape amidst a green leafy backdrop in the South West Rocks / Arakoon area. The property is located on a quiet street, a short 2.1km drive from the sheltered waters of Trial Bay Beach and 4.7km drive to the town centre of South West Rocks with Main Beach, Horseshoe Bay, shops, restaurants and a decent local pub, a great base to explore this diverse and beautiful part of the world, which offers world class diving, fishing, whale-watching and more. If you don't fancy cooking there is a great cafe up the road called Trail Bay Kiosk which does great coffee and pancakes, with a view of the water and the historic Trail Bay Gaol. The accommodation consists of the main upstairs dwelling with two double bedrooms and bathroom along with the huge open plan kitchen with all the mod cons. There is a large lounge room with comfy leather lounges, large wall mounted TV, DVD player and soundbar. The indoor dining area seats 8. There are two verandahs, the larger has a gas BBQ and seating area for outdoor dining or entertaining, or enjoying breakfast while watching the kangaroos in the yard, and colourful birds in the trees, while the kids play in the huge cubby house with slippery dip. We even had a little colony of tiny bats sheltering under the roof. Additionally, downstairs has two separate areas with undercover access from the outside. The first area has a kids lounge-room with TV and DVD player, two more bedrooms - one queen and the other a tri-bunk. The second area includes the laundry with shower and toilet and a games room with a pool table, wall mounted TV and dart board. There is plenty of outdoor car parking for several cars with room for kids to zoom around on bikes or scooters on the long asphalt driveway. Altogether a great option for a getaway with a large group of friends or two or three couples with kids.

I was able to make some small chat with the person at the reception probably because it was a slow Saturday night. It's a great location with lots of restaurants nearby for you to choose from. I wasn't sure what to expect from Coff's Harbour but this was a nice stop on my way up to Brisbane.
