Dr. Megan Caiazzo was able to remove the shoe from my puppy's stomach, and Dr. Jennifer Stafford performed his endoscopy. I am so grateful for their expertise, skill, and dedication in helping my little one through such a scary situation. When your beloved pet is sick or in danger, you are putting their life in someone else's hands, and that is a tremendous responsibility. Dr. Caiazzo and Dr. Stafford demonstrated the kind of specialized knowledge, professionalism, and care that every pet owner hopes to find in an emergency veterinary team. As a pet parent, there is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing your little one suffer and feeling helpless to fix it. The way things were presented caused a lot of panic for us, and we felt pressured to agree to services we believe our dog did not need totaling over 2k. When we raised our concerns afterward, the response felt dismissive and condescending, and the hospital declined to offer any refund or compensation. We also learned our conversations during the visit were recorded. Everything in my gut told me to take my dog home that day. I wish I had listened. If you are referred here for any procedure, I would encourage you to ask exactly what type of visit it is, what you will be charged, and whether you are being treated as an emergency patient before agreeing to anything.

My mom insisted on taking her in. Glad we did. After a thorough exam he shot an xray and found she had arthritis in her neck shedding light on something we didn't even know was there. They are very patient, even late in the evening. I found out recently that they see "pet strays". Tom, my sorta feral, lived on my porch since spring of 2018. (Before that he was sidelined by a blonde.) He got a boo-boo this past December, and it became infected. I called Lend Us Your Ear to see what options I had. Lend referred us to Balsalm, which is our hospital anyway. Dr. Moore took great care of Misa- in for late standard care- and Tom. Yes, they even allowed Misa to piggyback on Tom's appointment. And, yes, they are brave enough to help cats with bad attitudes. Tom had one. Sadly, a few days ago, I noticed that Tom was unable to urinate. It seemed that his left back leg was causing him some pain. My daughter said that Tom almost fell over trying to clean himself. We thought that that was due to his being nineteen pounds. Later that night, I chided him to get out of the rain. He got on top of his FeralVilla, and I hesitated. I wanted to cover him, but knew he would run away if I attempted to do so. The next morning, he was gone. He has been missing for several days now. My husband was the last to see him. I like to think that Tom went on a morning walk, and impulsively decided to look for a mistress. Misa and I are still looking for him in his regular spots. That quick, our lives have changed. And before we could get him help at Balsalm, the most dedicated and compassionate vet hospital in Haywood County. Dedicated to Tom, a tom hopefully vacationing in Miami.

When we moved to the area over 10 years ago, he immediately earned our trust by taking such tender, thoughtful care of our senior pets. When it came time to say goodbye to them, the compassion and empathy he and his staff showed us will stay with us forever. Last year, we experienced the heartbreaking loss of our 2 1/2 year old Doberman. Dr. McMillan once again went above and beyond, guiding us with care, taking time with us, and helping us through the grief. To this day, they still talk about him. That kind of connection and remembrance is something you cannot put a price on. Dr. McMillan is not just a vet. He is a caregiver who truly knows his patients and their humans.
