The church Shepard King Lutheran Church, leases space to the Romanians to hold their services as they have no physical church of their own. They are raising funds to build their own.
I received an email flyer from JoAnn Andera, the Texas Folklife Festival director about this concert. The husband was down for it.
Th choir was great, singing (chanting) in both English and Romanian. As a side note, the head of the Islamic Society of San Antonio was in attendance, but left about mid-way.
The concert went about an hour once it started. It started about 15 minutes later than the 6pm start time to allow folks to arrive because traffic was horrific.
After the concert we all went to the reception room for a Lenten dinner, all prepared by the Romanian community. There was chilled shrimp, cooked cabbage, beans, cauliflower salad, potato salad (not traditional) containing black olives, pickles, onion, red bell pepper, tossed in an oil. So good. Dips, pico de gallo (not sure how that got in. Ha, ha), hummus, chips and salsa. A really great spread. Then desserts - baklava, brown sugar tarts, fresh fruit, lemon cake , little powdered sugar cookies, coffee , tea and water. We were stuffed when we left. They just kept bringing it out!
It was $20 each well spent. The 2nd annual Romanian Festival is set for Oct 13, 2018 in Rosedale Park. Be there.
