I went to River Sea Chocolates to participate in an organized tasting on 2/13/20. First of all I loved the idea that River Sea Chocolate came up with to celebrate Valentine's Day. It is hard to find a way to celebrate as an adult that doesn't include an expensive meal. It was apparent that the gentleman giving the tour loved his craft. I also loved the fact that River Sea Chocolates was very generous with their samples. If I had one compliant it would be that River Sea Chocolates was not prepared for the large crowd. It would have been helpful if another staff member had been assisting the gentlemen talking with the samples. I also thought his lecture was better when he answered questions. However I wasn't sure when or how to ask questions while he was speaking. The products at River Sea Chocolates are fantastic. It would be hard to find something in their line that you didn't like. They offer a diverse line dark, milk, while and even green chocolate bars. In a nutshell, a wonderful product from a small business that I am happy to support. read more

For Valentine's Day, I booked me and my husband for a private chocolate tasting. While the guide was very nice--and the samples were large--he did not seem to be very knowledgeable about the chocolates & kept calling out the wrong ingredients within the bar. Also, the inclusion chocolates were a bit lacking (ex: we tried one with Hawaiian black salt, and we couldn't taste the salt at all). I recommend supporting this small business, as their chocolate is tasty. But save your $$ from the tours and private groups. I don't think that the money was worth it. read more

i paid $175 for the private tour & tasting with the owner as a gift for my mom, which was great, but theres one staff person who not only looks like ruth langmore from ozark but acts like her (not funny when youre on the receiving end). what a horrible, horrible attitude. we (me, my mother & her geriatric friends) arrived 5 minutes early & let her know we were there for our reservation. she said they werent ready because they were busy preparing for their holiday staff party. ok, pardon my intrusion. a few minutes later she waved us over. acting like she was going to present the tasting, i asked if she was an owner. she glared at me & picked up the phone to call the wife of the duo whom said she would be there in 'a little while'. so we waited. the husband of the duo arrived a few minutes later & the tasting began. he was great! fun & informative. we really enjoyed hearing what he had to say & we all learned a lot. we were almost done with our samples when he gave us the tour of the factory. i asked if we could leave our things on the table & he said yes. we returned in less than 10 minutes & 'ruth' had thrown away our chocolate, water & crackers! i said aloud 'why would you do that'. glaring at me again, she said we paid for an hour but got an hour & 20 minutes. im not sure how or why their time management is my responsibility but she said half of the next group had arrived & she needed to set up. so the owner had to scramble to assemble new tasting flights for each of us to take home. we didnt ask, he just did it. then we spent another $100 on hot chocolate & bars while made to feel incredibly unwelcome. i honestly dont know what i did to that girl but she is a waste of time, money, product & labor. we will not return & i have been telling everyone i know about this horrible experience. are the products good? yeah sure but who cares? read more

I die and went into chocolate heaven!! Its the best chocolate place I have visited so far. We found this gem of place literally right in our backyard and so organic, fresh and preservative free. We just visited this place, sampled different chocolates and bought more to take with us home. They also have cute little cafe and offer hot/cold chocolate with different flavors. Mocha etc. Worth visiting with kids or alone. Chrissy the owner is very sweet and very accommodating. She explained the process and offer little samples to decide. I'd say their chocolates are very reasonably priced given the quality and taste. They also offer popsicles and Chrissy offered mango chili popsicle which is a bomb and I couldn't stop slurping it. I see myself going there for a lot more chocolates and mango chili popsicle alone. I rarely write a review but I just want to spread a word out for this precious little business. It would break my heart if it's not going to survive, given current situation of Covid/economy. Do give it a try if you are in the area and around. You won't regret it! read more

We are obsessed with River-Sea Chocolates! the chocolates taste amazing! Each flavor is unique, and we love knowing that they are responsibly produced. They make fantastic gifts - I have given the bars as host(ess) gifts locally and abroad, and they are always a big hit. We went to the factory for a tour and chocolate-making party to celebrate a friend's birthday, and we had a wonderful time. We chose two kinds of chocolate (vegan milk chocolate and vegan white chocolate); we got to try our hands at tempering, and each of us decorated four bars. To COVID or not to COVID is the biggest question today when deciding to take your family out to places. River-sea Chocolate puts your worries at ease with all the pre work they do before you arrive for chocolate bar making. You are the only group during the process and I believe you can have up to five (5) in your party. You are greeted by name when you arrive (we were early) so they asked us to wait a few minutes while they finished setting up our area. Our host (sorry forgot her name) explained the process they went though to ensure they made the safest environment possible for everyone during these times with COVID. First we got to taste test the milk chocolate we would use for our bars. She then brought out all the extras we could add to the bars which I will list out Dried strawberries, raspberries, mango, oranges, and lemons then came the nuts hazelnuts, walnuts, and pistachios. Rose pedals, cinnamon, cayenne, and sea salt finished the extras. We then got to try the dark chocolate and decide how many bars of which type of chocolate we wanted. We each got to make 5 bars each starting with milk first. The staff was awesome, super friendly, very responsive to needs, and questions.....an all around wonderful experience. If you live within an hour from river-sea chocolates you need to make the drive! I can not wait for our next trip back. Great birthday present! read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about River-Sea Chocolates. They source their beans from small, ethically managed farms all over the globe. They use sail power to ship their beans to minimize their carbon footprint (they had to work to bring the first sail powered ship into a US port in many years!). The owners are friendly, kind people. And of course, they make amazing chocolates. We get bars for all the extended family for Xmas and they always disappear quickly. My personal favorite is the pumpkin chai coconut milk bar. read more

I'm so happy I found this little chocolate shop! I make it a priority to buy my products from small/local/family owned/ethical/sustainable businesses, and River Sea checks off all those priorities! The fact that they ensure their cacao comes from farms that do NOT employ (*ahem*enslave*) children and they transport their beans via sail boat is such a great selling point. Their chocolate is rich, flavorful, and complex in all the right ways. I've been in several times with my family to enjoy their gourmet hot chocolate and to buy bars. They have a family friendly atmosphere and coloring pages (printed on sustainable sugar pulp paper!) for the kids. It's a fun place to visit on a random Thursday afternoon for happy hour priced hot chocolate or to take friends for a fun weekend adventure! read more

I discovered this place a few months ago when I was looking for Hot Chocolate Bombs as a gift! WOW! What a gem of a chocolate shop. For Mother's day they had beautiful chocolate boxes filled with truffles, which were a great gift. Their hot chocolates are amazing and we try to stop by as often as we can for this treat - the best is the rum caramel. Recently, Chrissy the owner, was kind enough to hold a hot chocolate bomb making class for me and niece - we had a great time. The classes are listed on the website, and I highly recommend them. Attended their virtual Mother's Day Tasting, and it was so much fun. My wife (who I got this as a gift for) literally said it felt like we were on vacation. A nice break from the pandemic lockdown! Took my entire family here for chocolate making... $160 later we wondered what we spent our money on... We were "helped" by a couple of negligent teenagers who provided no guidance or "fun" whatsoever - even our three kids were aware and understandably disappointed. We had high hopes and scheduled our reservation many months ago - way overpriced for the experience and a real let down. I've ordered a few bars from here before. They delivered them to my door, along with a free bag of potpourri which was made from leftover bits of cacao. My favorite was the himalayan pink salt flavor, I look forward to ordering more. I left that bag of potpourri somewhere that my dog wound up destroying it within hours after receiving it, and after they found out, I was sent a new one unexpectedly, for free. It's a very well-made chocolate, but I did have to emphasize how above and beyond their customer service is. Not everybody buys chocolate just because they're paying very nice people for it, of course. If you try their pink salt bars though, don't plan on being able to hold back from finishing one off; it'll only be easy to stop nibbling when it's gone. read more

A very small shop but amazing chocolate. I stopped in to pick up more chocolate because a friend purchase so for me as a gift. I had to go back to get more of the golden chocolate turmeric. The shop owner was teaching a class to a group of girl scouts. I was able to get more bars of the luscious chocolate. I love the lavender chocolate. Small but might shop. read more

River-Sea chocolate is a family run business that makes such delicious chocolate. I was lucky enough to attend one of the tours they did at the factory a few weeks ago. Through this experience, I got to see the process of making chocolate. It's surely not very easy, but so much love goes into their products. I enjoyed the coconut chocolate, which is made with coconut milk. So many of their products are vegan which is super rad! My absolute favorite chocolate was their turmeric chocolate. It was like magic. I highly recommend it. They also make a lot of dark chocolate, which can be real tasty, but sometimes it just tastes bitter. While super dark chocolate is not my personal favorite, I do appreciate their efforts to create something real and authentic. Places like this are so hard to find these days. When these bars arrive in my mailbox my delight soars. Each one has a story to tell and a new flavor to taste test. I love knowing each bar is hand wrapped in a family factory, my last note said grandma powered. My current favorites are dark black tea and dark coconut, I hope these run again and again. Someday when I'm back east I can't wait to tour their sweet new factory and take a class where I can decorate my own bar with their fabulous array of herbs, flower petals and more. This was the second time we had gone on a chocolate tasting tour and we learned even more about how chocolate is made from the beginning to putting it into our mouths understanding how the different flavors come to our taste buds in waves. Both times our guides shared their own knowledge of chocolate making, how they enjoy the craft, and also showed us how they are totally addicted to this chocolate like we are for River-Sea Chocolate . We have gotten tasting kits for gifts and always leave with numerous bars. Often we will purchase on line and pick up at the store. This is not the quality of any chocolates that you purchase in the stores. I find myself able to eat a couple of bites and then be very full of the delightful chocolate. This weekend, my whole family did a chocolate tasting tour with the two charming owners of this deliciously unique chocolate shop. They taught us how to properly taste and enjoy chocolate, the texture and the flavor notes. They have a wide array of flavors that stem from different countries and offer different add ins such as coconut and gingerbread. Another positive thing to note about this chocolate company is that their mission includes being ecologically friendly (they import the beans on sail boats!) and fair trade (they purposefully do not get their beans from African countries that mainly exploit child labor). I LOVE their chocolate! Coconut Milk is my favorite but everything I have tried is so yummy. They have the most interesting flavors. I've never seen lavender tea, chai, fig, rose, or mushroom chocolate anywhere else. We did a tour and tasting in Chantilly. The owners taught us so much about chocolate, we got to try so many wonderful things, and it was a lot of fun. Great idea for those of us that don't drink wine but want a fun interactive tasting experience. My daughter is going to a children's birthday party there next week. So glad we found this! read more
