A caution to the public and communal lament…read more This used to be a 5-star club and then Concert Golf Partners dba Concert Renaissance bought the place. Allow me to explain. The Renaissance was an early 2000's community with a high-end low-density golf course and private recreational facilities to rival any community in Lee County. The development entity owned and operated the golf course and private recreational facilities collectively called The Club at Renaissance. The community was unified by a culture of golf, tennis, clubhouse dinners and genuine friendships. Rarely did you encounter someone in the community you did not know by name. The parking lot was empty as private golf carts were the dominant form of transportation. Rarely were the golf course or clubhouse utilized as venues open to the public. The friendly Renaissance wave was the sign you belonged. The development entity owned and operated The Club at Renaissance until the sale to Concert Golf Partners in September 2022. Most clubs are acquired for financial hardships, ours was not. A group of residents attempted to purchase The Club at Renaissance but, despite a higher offer, their offer was declined. With the sale began the decline of The Club at Renaissance to present day where it earns a 1-star review from this resident of the community. So, what has changed? A lot... Under the current ownership The Club at Renaissance has effectively changed a private club into a public playground. The primary audience has shifted from the residents to the public. Their focus has been on growing non-resident memberships, hosting golf tournaments for any and all causes and opening the clubhouse as a venue for weddings and other celebratory events to the public. The parking lot is now routinely full of pick-up trucks. The friendly and familiar Renaissance wave is no longer. The longstanding staff of The Club at Renaissance, many who are regarded as extended family, have left or have been let go. The quality and experience of the replacement staff are a shortcoming to their predecessors. Food quality has also suffered as The Club at Renaissance has turned to cheaper vendors at the expense of quality. Lastly, and certainly not least, the clubhouse and pool bar have been routinely closed to residents because it fails to meet the business case justifying their use. If that is not sufficient insult add to this the residents have incurred higher dues and level loading fees to enjoy less. Less for more! Despite diplomatic efforts by the residents, The Club at Renaissance has exerted its will on the residents of The Renaissance. The HOA for the community has defended the sovereignty of the community by filing a complaint to Lee County Zoning. As of August 2024, the county has issued 2 notices of violation for operating beyond what a private club is permitted. Here is a word of caution to those seeking to partner with The Club at Renaissance to use the golf course for a golf outing or clubhouse as a venue for your event. Your events could be in jeopardy of cancellation given they are, in part, the reason The Club at Renaissance finds itself with the notices of violation. The expectation is these events will come to an end, hopefully sooner than later. An additional word of caution to those seeking to join The Club at Renaissance who do not live in The Renaissance Community, you may be asked to forfeit your membership as this too is in violation of Lee County Land Development Code governing private club memberships. I hope you will reply and be accountable to your rightful members, the residents of The Renaissance. More importantly, I hope you will right these wrongs.
