When I had my orientation at work, I found out about these folks. They work for such a great cause. Apparently when United Way left this area, there was no one left to help out folks in the area that fell on rough financial times. In steps The River Fund. I found out they also help people apply for copies of birth certificates (because most states require notarized documents), which was the purpose of my visit. I spoke with Mike and was able to get his help walking me through the whole process. He was so friendly & helpful. He was kind enough to just charge me the exact fees that Los Angeles County (CA) was charging for my certificate. I told him I didn't have much leftover after that and just having paid my rent, so he didn't charge me for the notary services! He told me its normally only a $10 fee for it, and it isn't much, but still...I'm not trying to take advantage of the nice guy with the big heart. :) Please visit their website and see what they're about.
PS. If you plan on going to their office, I suggest you call first. Otherwise, it may be difficult to get someone. The amount of available staff depends on the day of the week. read more
