Specialties
River Cities Humane Society for Cats is a non-profit, no-kill shelter dedicated to rescuing, caring for, and finding loving homes for homeless and abandoned cats. Since our founding, we have worked tirelessly to provide a safe haven for cats in need, offering them food, medical care, and the love they deserve until they find their forever families. We rely on the support of our community, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers to continue our mission of giving every cat a second chance at a happy life. Together, we can make a difference—one cat at a time!
History
Established in 1992.
Since 1992, River Cities Humane Society for Cats has provided a safe haven for abused, sick, and unwanted cats and kittens in Northeast Louisiana. Over the years, we have taken in and adopted out over 14,000 cats and kittens into loving homes. With the help of local veterinarians, we ensure that every cat that leaves our shelter is spayed or neutered to help reduce pet overpopulation and prevent unnecessary suffering.
Most of our animals are rescued strays brought in by compassionate members of the public. Others are pets surrendered by owners facing major life changes such as moving to a nursing home, severe illness, or financial hardship. We also provide a safe place for cats whose caregivers have passed away, ensuring they receive love and care until they find a new home.
Because we are a no-kill shelter, our space is very limited. When we reach maximum capacity, we cannot take in new animals until adoptions make room.
