This is how designs look just a day after removing the henna (I had kept the henna on for about 12 hours)

Spending time with Sabreena in the Ritual by Design studio is one of my most enjoyable experiences in the Bay. I first heard about her through Instagram, but I will say that photos don't do justice to the level of intricacy and detail that Sabreena incorporates in her art. Watching her work is just mesmerizing as she spontaneously creates her henna designs. Her studio is full of vibes that connect to her South Asian roots and invoke a sense of true cultural immersion. If find yourself in SF, I highly recommend visiting the Ritual by Design studio for some art from the best henna artist out there.

I was lucky enough to get a design done from the owner at a party. She did a quick job and it was incredible to watch her work. I didn't give her any clues of what I wanted and she just went at it. It looked gorgeous and I got so many compliments on my henna. I suggest keeping the henna on overnight if you can because that made mine stay for over a week!

Bridal Mehndi! Sabreena did a phenomenal job on my bridal mehndi. It was the first time I had henna applied, so I didn't know what to expect. She made it so fun to watch, and the 4 hours flew by. She was laid back and easy going, super easy to chill with as she worked her magic. Her designs were breathtaking, I feel honored to have worked with her! She also was the sole artist for our mehndi party later that evening. All of our 100+ guests were so impressed with her designs! Not only was she patient with everyone, her charismatic personality makes you feel like you're catching up with a girlfriend. I've had the opportunity of both getting gorgeous henna designs by Sabreena as well as being present at several sessions where my friends where getting worked on. Her art is impecable and inspiring, I highly recommend the whole experience- from her presence to her detailed designs, Sabreena knows exactly what she is doing. When I got to my appointment Sabreena greeted me with a warm smile and freshly brewed tea. We discussed designs and decided to go with a traditional Indian-Pakistani bridal composition on my hands. Sabreena made me feel comfortable and relaxed throughout our henna session, she pampered me with cushions and fantastic stories while she worked on me. I had to let the henna dry as long as possible before washing my hands, which was the only difficult part of the experience. As I went about my activities small chunks of dry henna would fall here and there, once I took all of the henna off the next day the real vibrancy of her design was revealed. I loved looking at my hands every day and seeing the pigment's color change in time. Although Sabreena's traditional Indian and Pakistani bridal designs are gorgeous, don't forget to check out her other designs. My favorite are ones in which she mixes elements of traditional henna with her own feminine psychedelic-esque motifs. Talk with this talented kind-hearted woman and allow her to create a design just for you, you will love looking at it day after day.

Sabreena did my bridal mehndi and it was absolutely amazing! She came to my house, was really flexible with my limited space and made me feel really comfortable the whole time. She allowed me to adjust to make sure I would be able to sit still for the 6 hour session. I chose the most detailed package and Sabreena was really great at taking inspiration from my mother's bridal mehndi and incorporating it into my design. I gave her full freedom and she made the design so beautiful. I also loved that she brought her own music and was really social/talkative so the whole session wasn't awkward and quiet. It was nice to get to know her a little and I look forward to more sessions with her for future events! read more

Sabrina did such amazing job for my henna for my wedding 4 years ago! She was the most sweetest and patient person I've meet. She did the most beautiful job on my henna I won't ever forget about it! I got so many wonderful compliments about my henna. My best friend did hers with her she loved it. She was really amazing. I'm so glad I went with Sabreena for my bridal Mehndi! She's so incredibly talented that it's fun just watching her work. I asked her to personalize my Mehndi by incorporating some DNA in the design (I'm a genetics researcher) and it came out beautifully! She was also really nice to work with. The Mehndi event was very long and there was a lot going on, but she was flexible and applied Mehndi on my bridesmaids and family members as well. She also did Mehndi for our guests at Sangeet. Everyone was really impressed by her and loved their Mehndi! read more

Sabreena runs the show at Ritual By Design and will become your new best friend after one session. She's an expert in designing and applying traditional mehndi - as my wife & I got for our wedding & before our daughter was born. She's also a gifted improvisational designer and was able to give us some unique decorative mehndi before our trip to Dominican Republic. I've just gone back to work with her on some tattoo designs and she's great to collaborate with. If you're looking for traditional, she's got you covered. Sabreena is THE MOST AMAZING artist. I met her about a year ago, when she did some "just for me" henna, and I've gone back to see her so many times! I always feel a little more special when I'm wearing one of her masterpieces. If it's just before a vacation, birthday, our special occasion, I always make time to see her before! Everytime I've seen her, I just give her a basic idea of the location I'd like my henna done, and let her do her thing, and every single time, it turns out fabulously gorgeous. You really can't go wrong with her!! Every time I get henna done from Sabreena, I get showered in compliments over how beautiful her work is! She is super professional, friendly and extremely gifted in her art. Watching her put on henna is the most mesmerizing thing ever! Would highly recommend especially because she makes her own ORGANIC henna! Sabreena is AMAZING! I first heard about her work when she was doing some guest spots at Old Crow Tattoo in Oakland. I wasn't able to make those so I looked her up on Instagram and booked a personal appointment with her for an early birthday and a yoga retreat present. She is so sweet, super funny, and most important of all a brilliant and fast artist! Her henna is made by her personally and is quality and safe. (Some is not so be careful out there like black) I showed her some designs I liked and also asked for a skull which was not something she usually does but it came out great! She got my hands back and front and tops of my feet all done in an hour and a half. I was shocked how fast she worked. Just watching her is hypnotizing and meditating. The stain also lasted a really long time and got really dark. My skin holds ink really well but it was also because I followed her instructions to a tee. She sprayed some lemon sugar spray before wrapping me up (so I could drive home as it was late and I had to go to sleep too) and then I bought her balm to use on it the next day. I got so many compliments at work and at the yoga retreat and I am so happy with my entire experience. She's FANTASTIC! Can't wait to see her again sometime in the future. read more

I made 3 appointments with Sabreena for hennas. I did my first one for escape and it was for my left hand. I love her design! I had to get it done for Coachella too!! This time for my left hand and my right arm. Everybody kept complimenting of how beautiful her henna is. Strangers came to me and ask where I got it done. I also made an appointment for my friend to do on her arm for her b'day gift. Sabreena was so nice that she put her mom's initials in her design so that she can bring it to Coachella with her. Her henna stays for 2 weeks if you don't scrub it. With the hand designs it lasted for a week for me since I washed my hands a lot. I would make an appointment again if I have special event coming up. Thanks Sabreena! read more

I am so happy I chose Sabreena for my first henna experience. She is very laid back and has a calming soul. The experience was amazing and watching her create a design right before your eyes, you are truly watching a masterpiece come to life. She is very talented in what she does and is very enthusiastic about her work. You can tell she truly loves what she does and that is someone worth going to. I had my right arm done up to about mid arm. The appointment took about a hour to complete the tattoo. Could I be any more stoked than I am? NO! Sabreena is AMAZING!!! I have been looking around for henna tattoos for a bit now, and not completely impressed. However, when I looked at her artwork I was interested so I called her! She is incredibly nice and easy to talk to! When I went in, all I knew was that I wanted the henna to wrap around my arm and express rebirth. Having only those two descriptions she did a completely incredible job!!! Not only did she patiently and lovingly endure my drinking champagne while getting my bridal mendhi done, having a small circus of people surrounding me in the bridal suite, and help me eat tacos so I didn't starve, she was genuinely enthusiastic and happy throughout all of it. Her work speaks for itself -- you can check out the pictures of me in the blue and pink on the site. The design was so absolutely gorgeous and lasted up to a month on some parts of my arms and feet! When we had a shuttle snafu that prevented our guests to get to our Sangeet event on time, she graciously stayed late and patiently mendhied up all of our adoring guests. She is an all around FANTASTIC person who really goes out of her way to make sure her brides and guests feel taken care of. And as a sidenote ... a few of my extended family members decided to get their mendhi done by someone else -- and all they could talk about is how much better Sabreeena's work was. I drove from Santa Cruz to get henna for my birthday from this lovely lady and it was definitely worth it! She was so sweet and did a beautiful job! I had never done henna so I had no idea what I wanted. She asked me a couple questions about what types of designs I like. She did above and beyond my expectations. I received so many compliments. Sabreena is beyond incredible! I booked her for my wedding mehndi as well as a few hours for my guests and I can't speak more highly of her work. She spent all day with us (9am to 7pm) and was incredibly patient, gracious, humorous, and motivated the entire time. Sabreena is an amazingly talented artist and every piece she does is unique and gorgeous. Sabreena did an amazing job with the mehndi at my wedding. She did my bridal mehndi and my sisters' and mom's mehndi one day and came to the mehndi party the next day and did mehndi for lots of girls and women there. I was so happy that I found her to do all the wedding mehndi. Her work was beautiful. She is definitely a perfectionist. People were raving about the mehndi. I really appreciated that she wanted to understand my style before starting. I had an idea of what I wanted for my hands (and she did a great job with that), but not really for my feet, so she drew a design that she thought I would like. I loved it! It was perfect for me. She was also a pleasure to be around. She spent a lot of time around my close family while we were chatting and catching up and it felt like she was just an old family friend. At the mehndi party, she worked tirelessly to do mehndi for everyone that wanted it. Everyone was really impressed and happy with their designs. That all changed when she called me one day to change my appointment time for the following day. She asked if I could come at 11:00 and I let her know I couldn't due to living in the east bay and having to come back for an appointment so I asked if 10:30 worked she then offered 10:45. That worked for me so I said that was fine. The day of my appointment she completely rushed took hairs off that she wasn't supposed to and I asked to fix some spots. She fixed some but I still had to come home and reshape them and they looked great. Again I know her work so I know she was completely rushing but I gave it to her maybe it's a one off. I came back this past week and she completely messed up my eyebrows again to the point where one was significantly higher than the other. When I did the first look she left about 6 straggler hairs in the front of my left brow and it looked so dumb so I told her to take them off. She was hesitant to remove them because she knew she took to much off as well and it would cause one brow to be thinner. I said well can you even them out and she said she didn't want because they would be to thin. I didn't want to to risk her messing them up further so I left it as is. I don't even know why I left a tip to be honest but I had to come home and fix them again but this time I had to really thin them out which is annoying because I had grown them out. It's clear to me she isn't even trying to do my eyebrows well because again I knew her previous work and she always took her time to ensure they were perfect. I'll attach pictures of how she left them after the appointment and what I had to do to make them look a little more even.

Since the moment I met Sabreena I knew it was meant to be. Her radiant energy carried through the phone as I made my way to our first appointment 3 years ago. Being an artist myself I was very adamant about the one creating my mendhi piece to have both the skillset and good energy, and she exceeded my expectation beyond measure. I could go on and on about how superb her talent is but it is clear from her work that she is fantastic at the craft of having delicate hands to create masterpieces. Anyone who has had henna done before knows that it can be uncomfortable to sit for long periods of time, but throughout every step of the way Sabreena made it comfortable, and enjoyable. I could tell that she was very organized, professional, and clean with all of her materials. She cared about the quality of henna that she was using and explained the different kinds there are out there, which was important for me to know. I loved my henna tattoo! Sabreena was very personal and made the whole experience a lot of fun. She served me tea and told wonderful stories as she worked. The process of getting the henna applied felt so wonderful and relaxing. Her art is stunning! She does very traditional designs, but is also very adept at her own designs as well. My only regret was getting my henna done on my shoulder, so I didn't get to stare at it except when I was around a mirror. The henna tattoo I received was beautiful. I had a full back piece done and I loved it very much. I trusted Sabreena to do whatever she wanted in terms of design and it turned out beautifully. The session took two hours and it was a pleasant experience. Sabreena is an easy going girl she'll talk to you about anything to help you pass the time.
