My main issue with this store has to do with two experiences I had with the pharmacy, the second of which was unacceptable. I had my own prescription to fill and my daughter (who is 18) asked me if I would fill hers and pick it up. She is not incapable of doing it but suffers from anxiety and for whatever reason, this stresses her out. I dropped it off Monday, along with mine, but they wouldn't fill mine until Tuesday (part of my second issue with them). I even told them she hadn't had these two prescriptions filled here although they were not new. She had them filled at a Walgreens in Carlsbad. Mine I had had filled there once. I had to be somewhere 15 minutes away in 15 minutes, my daughter was running out of her meds tomorrow. I was supposed to give them to her tonight and I needed to pick them up and move on as I had planned. She and I would both be at work before the pharmacy opened in the morning. I argued with the technician, which I'm sure makes me "THAT" customer, but this was ridiculous. I asked if "new prescription" meant at that pharmacy or for the patient, because I didn't see why they had a rule restricting release of a drug simply because it was the first time they'd interacted with that patient. She just repeated the rule without defining her terms. I explained that she got them at Walgreens in Carlsbad for the last 4 months. I showed her the RX fill history for her. She would not look at this. If this is a policy, it should be established, upon drop off, whether the scrip is a new one or not. Then, the pharmacist will be able to sign off on its release without having to be there for consultation. As I drove off, it hit me. Why was there only one pharmacist? That was the whole problem. That's why I had never witnessed this craziness before. I never picked up a scrip without a pharmacist there. So that seems to be kind of a negative about this pharmacy. But the thing is they weren't apologetic. I called to speak with a manager to find out why there was no pharmacist in the pharmacy if it meant they were unable to release anything --at a prime after-work hour when people might be picking up prescriptions. The person who answered was, in fact, the pharmacist...who proceeded to be pedantic, rude, condescending dismissive and insulting, all in a very calm metered voice. Keeping your voice down while you insult and condescend to people is NOT polite by the way-you may come out looking calmer than the person your are enraging but you're still being a jerk. Just a quiet one. He interrupted me as I tried to explain the issue with no pharmacist being present at a prime hour, asking me for the birthdate of the patient. I tried to continue, telling him that wasn't relevant. This was a complaint about business practice. He interrupted again telling me he couldn't establish the problem without looking up the case. I asked him to let me finish, telling him I knew why they had the rule, just not why there wasn't a policy to prevent this problem. This went back and forth, and I finally gave him the birthdate and he looked her up to tell me the rule about new prescriptions. I tried to finish the sentence I had begun the conversation with but had not been allowed to finish and he interrupted me again saying that if I would "calm down" he could explain this to me. I finally just talked over him at which point he chastised me for raising my voice and then lectured me about how he deserved to take a lunch break and didn't I take a lunch break. So now by suggesting that they should have two pharmacists or have a better way of identifying which prescriptions needed consultation and couldn't be released in his absence, I'm anti- union labor laws. I hung up. I called the Walgreens next to where my 7:30 was, and asked them to get the scrip from Rite Aid. They did and it was ready as I finished up. The other thing-shaming ADHD meds. I have a scrip for a schedule II substance that I try to refill before the day I have none left. The rule is a 2-3 day grace period, in case you're going out of town or can't make it in on day 29. I dropped it off with my daughter's scrip to avoid multiple trips. The first time I dropped it off (the previous month) my doctor's appt was a few days before the 30 day limit but I dropped it on my way home. Both times I was sternly informed that I was trying to fill it early. Well, actually I wasn't and I needed it two days early because I was leaving town for 3 days. When it was newly prescribed, I took it THAT day. So 30 days later would be one day early. You have to count the day it was dispensed. They don't -they count the next day as day 1. So the first time I actually was not dropping it early.It was filled on May 6 and I took it the today. I dropped it off on June 3. There are 31 days in May. So that was day 29. It wasn't early. I don't need that. They can't do math and they're rude and judgmental and have inefficient policies that are not in the best interest of the patient. read more

Usually I never have issues with this rite aid but when we went up to the registers, our cashier named Vilma requested another associate (whose been working at rite aid for longer than I've been alive and she's very sweet) to help her with a complicated transaction involving another customer but Vilma did not give any instruction to the other nice associate so the nice associate said she didn't understand what Vilma wanted (which is reasonable since she got no direction). Vilma replied in a very snotty tone "that's because you never understand when you don't want to do anything." The comment was totally unwarranted and unprofessional especially in front of customers. I called and asked for a manager so we could complain about the awkward and rude experience we just had but got a supervisor who literally laughed when I told her what happened. Definitely not getting my prescriptions there anymore and never going back. Super disrespectful. read more

I stopped at this pharmacy to pick up pain medication for my husband on our way home from the hospital where he had outpatient surgery. He was in considerable pain. However we couldn't pick up the medication because the pharmacist was on his break. The man ahead of me in line was doing the same for his wife. Both of us had to make a second trip to the pharmacy to get the medications we needed. I have never had this problem with CVS on the other side of town. They seem to be correctly staffed. read more

Long lines at times, but the workers have always been nice when I go in. They have a huge selection-big plus!

The cashier was very blunt and rude, maybe he didn't have his coffee yet? I asked him for drinks and he sent me over to the coolers. Which where just replaced and nothing in them. I asked one of the 6 other employees working on the new coolers where the drinks were? and they said they where still packed up. Great so I walked to the back of the sore for nothing. I looked around and there was construction all over the store. Maybe you guys should just close temporarily while you remodel, cause your service and selection greatly suffers until its over. read more

I live in Lafayette but I come here to fill my prescriptions because they are so nice and helpful and very prompt!! Also the store is huge and has everything you could possibly need and very well laid out and stocked. I love Rite Aid since we lost Longs drugs it is the closest thing for service and quality. read more

I have been very happy with their service in the pharmacy department. They handle questions with insurance coverage or your doctor rather than just pushing it back on you. Very conscientious and fill prescriptions quickly. Sometimes very difficult to reach on the phone, though. By the way, I found their prices lower--often much lower--than the CVS (formerly Longs) on the other side of Orinda. The rest of the store has been updated over the years and is very pleasant. However, they are frequently out of stock on items advertised and that may continue for weeks without them getting the product. The other big advantage to this store is that they have a large parking lot while CVS has nothing but street parking which is hard to come by. read more

I usually pick up my Mom's meds or get my usualy cough drops/Lifesaver WintoGreens. Will come here @ least once or twice a month.

Until a few months ago I wasn't a big fan of Rite Aid and got all my prescriptions filled at Longs. But things have changed ! The store is cleaner, the merchandise is well organized and the staff is friendly and well trained, especially in the pharmacy ! And with their $25 prescription transfer gift cards, why go anywhere else? Anyway, I do virtually all my shopping there in Orinda and really like all that they have to offer. Good going Rite-Aid. I've shopped here for years and think the store is well run. It's clean, bright and roomy. Wide range of useful items, reasonably priced. The pharmacy is excellent. The assistant staff is friendly and helpful -- we know each other's names and they recognize my voice when I call. One pharmacist, Rahmi, has been super helpful. Only reason I took off a star is that recently the pharmacy didn't have a pain med in stock that I think should be available all the time. I like this store better than the other drugstore in town, CVS. read more

zero stars. The man who appears to be the lead pharmacist at this location is extremely rude. I've had several interactions with him via telephone and in person, and his rudeness is consistent. Prescriptions here are never ready when they are supposed to be. Rite Aid in Orinda is like the Walmart of pharmacy's. Low quality, poor service. Avoid it like the plague. read more
