Knowing I needed much more work than that. Over the course of 6 months got some basics done, and was set to get a root canal in January of the next year. Didnt get an appointment date, never got a call again, and within 6 months of my last visit every single bit of work that was done had fallen out. I was never given care instructions, was never told how to best make sure to preserve what I could of my teeth, and every single time I came in the doctor pretended to care just long enough to ask how I was doing before shoving tools in my mouth. This review is only showing up now, because after 2+ years of no contact, care, concern, or trying to get more of my money, guess who randomly remembered Im supposedly due for a cleaning? I've seen dozens of dentist in my life, some for a few months, some for years. This is the second worst dentist I've ever had the misfortune to let probe my body in some way. Dude's a quack. After X-rays, I was told they couldn't actually treat the problem and that I would need to see their specialist -- with an appointment scheduled a MONTH later. A month. For a cracked wisdom tooth causing significant pain. But somehow, despite being unable to address the urgent issue I came in for, there was still time to discuss teeth whitening treatments and tell me I supposedly had multiple cavities that would require extensive work. I left, found another dentist the very next day, had the wisdom tooth removed immediately, and was told there were no cavities or other issues. I understand referrals happen. Specialists exist for a reason. What I do not understand is bringing in a patient in acute pain, failing to meaningfully help them, then pivoting to cosmetic upsells and questionable diagnoses while they're sitting there suffering. If your office cannot provide emergency treatment, be honest about that upfront. Don't tell people in pain you can help, only to turn the visit into a sales opportunity. I would strongly encourage anyone seeking urgent dental care to get a second opinion.

That was just the beginning of the problems. Dr. Hooper placed two implants for me, and both have been problematic. One has large gaps in front and behind the tooth, which causes food to constantly get trapped. The other implant is still painful and uncomfortable when I chew. I also told him repeatedly about sensitivity in two other teeth -- one in the lower right quadrant (sensitive to hot and cold) and one in the upper right quadrant (sensitive to cold). Despite bringing this up on three separate visits, he insisted nothing was wrong. I tried to be patient and give him the chance to make things right, but I finally left Gentle Dental and went to another dentist. At my very first appointment, the new dentist immediately identified the problems with my sensitive teeth and scheduled the first procedure to correct them. In Michigan, they actually confirm your appointment, text, call, email, smoke signal, whatever it takes. If I had gotten a confirmation, I would've been there. I don't miss appointments. And to that front desk woman: If you're reading this, your tone was unacceptable and wildly unprofessional. I genuinely hope you wake up with a mild but persistent inconvenience every single day. I am very familiar with text/ email reminders, or confirmations of medical appointments, but I have never experienced a policy like this one that literally cancels your appointment two days before. What if people are working or traveling and don't get the message until after 3pm? Also, maybe this was in the fine print, but I was never informed of such a ridiculous policy. I also don't appreciate the limited hours of operation. Maybe it works for a stay at home house wife, but for anyone running a business, or working long hours it's just not convenient, or practical. Another issue is that they require you to pay up front for services, and then you have to wait for your insurance to reimburse you. Another inconvenience. Finally, they have made a lot of investments in new technologies, such as the sonic cleaner and they require/ prefer for you to use the uncomfortable devices, even when you request hand scaling. At my last cleaning I asked the hygienist if she could just do hand scaling because the sonic device is uncomfortable and causes more TMJ pain. Her response was, "why don't we compromise and do half and half." It made me feel pressured to concede, and likely she is being pressured/ encouraged to use this device on patients. I'm sure Coastal Cosmetic Dentistry has plenty of business, and lots of 5 star reviews, but it's hard to imagine that I'm the only patient that's been put out by the items mentioned above. You might want to at least give your patients a heads up that you require a response two days before your scheduled appointment to keep the appointment.
