I want to put up mad props to their guide, Clint Kirk. Right now, he stands as the best fly fishing guide I have ever worked with. It didn't take too long on the float trip down the river for me to realize that he knows the Rio Grande better than the other guides that went by. He pointed out tons of very specific spots to cast to. Of course, it was up to me to have my own game on to properly present my fly to catch trout. Just the same, I learned a lot about fishing moving water by paying mind to Clint. I walked away a better angler by the end of the day.
Under very difficult conditions--strong winds making both handling the boat and making a decent cast--Clint managed to put me and my brother where we could find and catch fish. We were very impressed by his strength, stamina, and control as our coxswain. Had the wind not been such an issue, I know the boat would have landed more fish. As it was, the numbers brought to hand was good. Had there been less wind, the day would have been epic.
The one last thing that impressed me about Clint was that he is not only a true gentleman but a member of the local community. Though he isn't originally from Creede, he has managed to befriend many people here. I believe that is because they all know he respects and understands their humanity. I can say that, because I felt that while riding his boat. Clint Kirk is no BS from top to bottom. read more
