They didn't have a lot of help but the two running the place were on top of their game as best they could. The fryer was down so we had the homemade pubs chips with our burgers. If you don't like their burgers then you need a kick in the pants! Oh sure it could be less grungy with a/c but then maybe it would lose some of it's over 100 year old charm. One such restaurant is ringside, a small little bar and grill that lures white collar workers in for lunch hour as well as the few Columbus natives that stumble in on occasion. Listen, I am so glad I found this little hidden gem. It is tucked back and away amongst the construction on Pearl and Lynn but it was so worth the hunt to find it. We'd originally come down to go to the new Belly Burger place around the corner but they were out of fries, which is the only side they offer?, so we left. Yelp led us to Ringside and it did not lead us astray. It was around 6:30, 7 on a Saturday and there was a line at the door when we got there but we snagged two seats at the bar fairly quickly. Granted, the restaurant is SMALL but that adds to the old school feel and charm, I think. The bartender/waiter/only serve staff to be seen was HUSTLING around the dining room and he was KILLING it. No one ever seemed to be really waiting on anything. I ordered the Cajun bleu burger and my friend got the Cajun chicken sandwich and both were excellent! The burger was flavorful and juicy. The best part of it all- they have those amazing house made potato/kettle chip things. So good. The drinks were strong too so I definitely felt like I got my moneys worth. All in all, 10 for 10 recommend for the food, personality, and good service. read more

Has good food and terrible service. Took a half hour to get our food, took another fifteen minutes to get the check, overall spent an hour at lunch when they were not that busy. The only reason they didn't get one star is the food is really good. Sad to see such lousy service. read more

Stopped in hear to have a quick burger before heading off to the airport. I have to say it is one of the best burgers I have ever had. The homemade bbq sauce on the Smokin Joe is excellent and the guys in the kitchen KNOW how to cook a burger medium-rare. The homemade chips were perfectly cooked. Carly waited on me and she did an excellent job. Friendly, professional and excellent at making recommendations. Moving on, my only complaint is the mildew smell and the interesting aroma coming from the cellar. Which made dining not so pleasant. However the service made up for it. One of my colleagues told me they had great BLT sandwiches so I went to check it out. I've received better service at McDonald's. I went inside the restaurant and there were three tables available (2 booths and 1 table in the middle of the floor). Both of the booths needed to be cleaned up from previous customers. I asked to be seated in a booth and the waitress told me she would clean them up and offered me a seat at the middle table. Another waitress came to take my order. I gave her my order, but told her I was waiting to be seated at a booth once one was cleared. I was distracted by a text message and noticed that the first waitress cleaned out one of the booth and seated a couple that came in AFTER me. I was furious! She knew I did not want to be seated at the table and was supposed to be clearing a booth for me. I cancelled my order with the second waitress and insisted on speaking with the manager. First, he said that they have a policy of not seating people eating alone in a booth and then he said the waitress didn't know I waiting for a booth. If that's the policy then the waitress should have communicated that to me, instead of lying and wasting my time. Also, the waitress knew I was waiting for a booth, because I told her when I came into the restaurant. After I debunked this ridiculous excuses, THEN he apologized and offered to clean up the other booth. I was done and left. Ended up eating a Jack's, also in the alley, and thoroughly enjoyed their BLT. read more

Visiting from out of town and went based on Yelp reviews with no regrets. The fries were exceptional as was the blue cheese burger. You can definitely tell that almost everything is made in house. I went on a Tuesday night when the legislature was not in session and very easy to grab a spot. I also like the fact that they don't skimp on portions with the fries or the burger. read more

Nestled in a back alley, this literal hole in the wall is a very cool little bar--but it is little. Don't even bother if there's more than four of you; they can pull two tables together, but they only have about a dozen tables, so good luck on waiting for two to open up next to each other. They do apparently have a patio in warmer weather, but it was pretty chilly when I was there so it wasn't in use. The burgers are fantastic, though, and service is prompt, so if you don't mind possibly waiting a little while for a seat it's absolutely worth it. We kind of had a hard time finding this place. It's in an alley in downtown Columbus. I had heard great things so my son and I headed down on Friday night. For being a restaurant, it is TINY. A couple of booths, a couple of tables and the bar. That's it. I don't know how they make food back there. The kitchen is almost non existent. The building is very old and neat though. We waited for what felt like forever. They greeted us when we came in but then we sat for at least 10 minutes before they even took our drink orders. It wasn't really that busy but obviously the server was overwhelmed. Everyone was nice though. Again, waited a LONG time for the food.The burgers were REALLY good though. The chips were ok. They needed some flavoring or salt or something. Just really bland. I would go back but only for takeout. I think we were there for at least an hour and a half just to get 2 burgers and eat. read more

Myself and a coworker decided to try out the infamous "Ringside Cafe" yesterday. Bad decision, we had the worst service I think I ever experienced. We had to serve ourselves to the soda machine because the server (if you want to call him that) was too busy with the 5 others in the restaurant! He did not even notice that we served ourselves! We put them out by asking for silverware. Burger was good, chips were awful, fries were not done and again, the service was terrible. $13.00 for lousy service. Don't bother. I mean DO NOT BOTHER! DO NOT GO HERE! I know the "dive" vibe is cool and all, but don't expect it here! I am not a bitter old person either, I can let things slide being in the restaurant business for 10 years, but I am sick of people just not caring about the customer anymore! First time today. The place looks cool, and the service is ok. My hamburger was good, but the bun fell apart because it was just dry, so the whole experience of holding a hamburger in my hands didn't go well. Just get a better bun guys. read more
