Whether its postioning was tactical or not I've idea but what I can tell you is that this little gem has a fantastically fun and friendly atmospere that is helped hugely by the fact that it's not somewhere idiots stumble into accidently on a ramdom crawl. Offering entertainment throughout the week including Karaoke and a 70's, 80's & 90's chart club night, Charlies plays host to the hugely popular 'Heart of Soul' club night on Saturdays, playing R'n'B, funk and Sweet Soul music. Everybody there is a have-a-go hero, X Factor it isn't but Y-not Factor it certainly is! Get your tonsils warmed up and get down there.

The sound quality provided by the venue and DJ was excellent, and the disco lighting was very cool. Shane was responsive, friendly, and engaging. The whole experience could not have been better. It was perfect, and the best day of our lives. Many of our guests communicated how much they had enjoyed the day afterwards.

From now until February if anyone needs me I'll be in a big dark tunnel under the railway station throwing out some shapes to the best DJs in the world and hugging people I would normally cross the street to avoid- it don't get no better than this Jon Boy! One of my greatest claims to fame took place here when Mike from Groove Armada dedicated Superstylin' to yours truly on my birthday after getting me and my friends in as a thank you for taking them around the old man bars of Liverpool after striking up an unlikely friendship in Cream. Tis a strange feeling indeed to spend an evening being asked by strangers if you are "THE Jay". I am SO the Jay.

Whilst still living…read moreLiverpool I often came to Manchester clubbing and thought 'so where is everyone?', I found them ALL here! Yes hidden away in a dark underground car park under Piccadilly train station there are around 2000 whistling shape throwers that gather every week or so from the month of September through till Febuary every year. The Warehouse Project makes you feel like you truly are part of an underground scene again ......although in recent years it seems to have secured a few sponsorship deals (kinda ruins it). But hey this place is somewhere you can let your hair down and lose yourself (or lose your shoes if your like me ....no seriously is quite embarrassing when people are congratulating your other half for going home to get you another pair of shoes due to the fact you have lost them indefinitely down the side of a speaker). I would recommend that if you want to know what Manchester really has to offer you wiggle your way down to the Warehouse Project and party with the best of 'em.

The bass here is heavy and tight! Odd location far enough from town to keep the idiots away makes it all the better - can walk it if you're on a mission or most taxis know where it is. There tends to be a party bus run on the bigger nights with pick ups from town or hyde park. If you're fed up of pretentious club nights that have turned into more fashion parades than anything else then I can highly recommend the Beaver Works for a good night out.

Also, we are Americans and it was our first trip to Manchester. My Mancunian is not that good, but I am trying (I know what "kecks" are and I regularly use the word "bobbins"). I was worried we would not understand but was delighted to discover that comedy is pretty universal. It helped that the loud table to our right was completely composed of people from Wigan. Even these Americans know that Wigan is funny for so many reasons. (Hint...Wigan is to the North as West Virginia is to the US). The comedians did so well, the girl that won was so funny, kind of like a foul mouthed young Manc Minnie Pearl. Loved the trans comedian too. We made a lot of friends and laughed all night. Only problem was a guy from Liverpool. We don't speak Scouse and have no idea what he was saying. Thankfully, the Mancunians couldn't understand him either and threw the BD off the stage in 1 minute!

It was the free Monday night comedy club that me and the girlfriend wanted to go to it. So we got our going out clothes on, got a couple of friends and headed over to the comedy club. Which is where we discovered a big queue, and people walking past the queue who had already booked a table in advance. When it came to it, the place was so busy that we couldn't get in, and were turned away. So my advice would be just to book a table. It costs hardly anything to book and guarantees you a spot which would avoid the annoyance that we experienced. I'm assuming this place is really good if it's this busy!
