This was the only hut we stayed at on our whole Tour du Mont Blanc. We stayed here because there were no legal campsite alternatives. I must say, I like camping a lot better than staying at Rifugios.
We arrived pretty early in the day. I was feeling pretty sick and it may have been food poisoning. A thunderstorm was fast approaching. We went in and told the staff we had a reservation for the night. We were told no check in until 3:30 and sent out to face the storm.
Since it was early and the next day was long we thought about trying to go to the next Rifugio. Our guidebook author had said it was common for Rifugio staff to phone the next one and help with reservations. Our phones didn't work. We explained our situation to the staff and they just shrugged.
We spent the night only, didn't have the dinner and breakfast. The room was very cramped, hot and stuffy and smelled like dirty socks and farts. Someone was snoring very loudly, so I didn't get sleep before getting up at 4 am for a very long hike the next day. read more
