We joined because of all the programs they offer to children and professionals. I highly recommend this church to any family in the surround area that is wanting a church to call home.

The ministry staff are all educated, loving and caring of each parishioner. Dr. Dan Jones has been Senior Minister at FCCG for 18+ yrs. His sermons are uplifting and inspirational to the congregation. I always leave with a life message to help grow stronger in my faith. The music is led by a musical educator who is well known in the music industry. The Chancel Choir is excellent. There are multiple Sunday School classes to choose from. I have especially enjoyed the Disciple Womens group which offers a chance once a month to fellowship with other Christian women. Easter, Christmas and other holidays are met with activities, learning and a special time of worship and prayer. I only wish that I had found this place of worship years and years ago. My relationship with Christ has grown in this environment. I am a happier person today because of the growth I have experienced in my faith; and the Agape love of my church family.

When I asked myself "Why is EDCC my church" I found I could describe it in two words - 'Divine…read moreIntervention'. In the first 16 years of my life I lived in 8 different homes in 6 different cities - Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Memphis. Some give me pity because I never really lived anywhere longer than 5 years - but I take a different look at it. Living in these many different socio-economic areas gave me a great appreciation for the diversity of people and different ways of looking at a situation. During this time my family was my constant. So was the Presbyterian Church. When we moved to Memphis my parents became Baptist and I also joined the church. I very quickly found that it wasn't the church for me and it was at that point I began my identity struggle knowing that I am different. I couldn't believe that God made a mistake when he created me and it certainly isn't a choice - I mean, who would choose the life as an outcast? It was through that journey that I found the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). I came to peace with myself and my Christian upbringing. I was active in the music ministry of Lindenwood Christian Church for over 10 years - but it being the 'proper south', it wasn't something you talked about. In 1995, I moved to Dallas and really started focusing on my career. I remember becoming selfish about my weekends because I was traveling every Monday - Thursday. It wasn't until a 7 year relationship fell apart that I realized something important was missing in my life. I also realized that I was tired of living several different lives. My work life, my personal life, my church life... it is far more work than I was willing to keep up with. One day I was sitting in a luncheon listening to the key-note speaker address a GLBT business association and he said (and I'm paraphrasing) - "It's well and good to have your own groups of like-minded people - but where you make the biggest difference is when you are across the hall being active in the Lion's Club or the Rotary club and working with people that see you are no different than they are". That hit home for me. That is also why I'm not a member of Cathedral of Hope - I needed balance. I want to be in a church where individuals can have opposing beliefs but still affirm one another's journey of faith in Christ. It gets back to my appreciation for diversity. That's when Divine Intervention pushed me in the right direction. My first Christmas of being single a friend invited me to a pre-Christmas party at his house. That is where I met Brenda Armstrong who invited me to visit her church. She shared what a wonderful place it is from the beauty of the building to the beauty of the people. I came to visit around Christmas and the rest is a blur. Now I'm active in the choir, the music committee, evangelism committee, was on the long-range-planning committee and I'm a Deacon - without the need to hide who I am. I'm just like you - I believe Jesus Christ is my savior and want to do the work of the church with the rest of you - elbow to elbow. I continue to learn from the scriptures and sermons which continue to challenge me at being a better person. Thank you for the love, kindness and support that each one of you gives so willingly each time I see you. Now I just hope I can serve as an example and show others outside the church that may be struggling with their identity that East Dallas is a great place to find yourself.
