I started ordering flowers by phone from Barbara's a few years ago: for her birthday, or Christmas, or just because. Barbara's has always assisted me in choosing flowers and arrangements, even suggesting colors. I have never been disappointed. This florist takes her time assisting customers. I appreciate that very much because good customer service is becoming a thing of the past, especially in the big metropolitan area where I live. My cousin takes a photo of her flowers every time she gets some and sends me that photo. She is thrilled to receive the beautiful flowers this florist provides. And, I am always impressed with the lovely arrangement. Other people who see her floral arrangements always comment how beautiful they are. A few days ago, I purchased a dozen yellow roses for my cousin from Barbara's. They were glorious! The artistry of this florist shows in the time they take to make any arrangement look spectacular. Driving north, I stopped at the Sioux City Art Center to see the Corn Room Murals from 1927 by…read moreGrant Wood. These delicate oil on canvas mounted on board panels of Iowa cornfields were rediscovered in 1979, saved, and removed from the local Martin Hotel in the 1980s. The vibrancy of the panels is no more. Seeing them in the small gallery here is like looking at ancient murals. The viewer is faced with the creamy yellows, tans, and browns but little detail remains. However, sit and gaze at these for a while, let your imagination help you, and you'll get a sense of how lovely these panels must have been. For the local community, this Grant Wood work, even in its diminished state, is an important historic and cultural touchstone. The Art Center itself is a nice space for exhibitions. The few here were more interesting than I expected. I was especially taken with Teo Nguyen's giant acrylic on vellum 'Lotus Pond,' from 2018-22.

What a shop! I'm on a cross country solo tour and I walked into this shop in dire need of new…read moretires, tubes, a chain, and some general bike loving. I did the unspeakable and asked if it was possible to get the bike by the end of the following day and although a bit busy in general this season, they take bike-tourers under their wings whenever possible. For a shop that only had one review on Yelp, I was seriously worried - but no reason to be! This is a REAL BIKE SHOP!!!! Hahaha! They have all the goodies that you may need. Be prepared if you need 26" you're gonna need to call ahead to order. A basic tune costs $65 bucks and they'll call you if you need anything additional. I took the only skinny pair of 26" tires and the last two tubes (26x1.5) the only downside to this is that they tossed one of my current tubes and I could've patched it :( so now I have two tubes on the bike and only 1 extra. Aside from my gear, the shop specializes in Specialized Bikes with everything from MTB, road, fatty snow bikes, and touring. They've got loads of shoes, jerseys, shorts, shoes, and helmets to chose from. Handlebar tape, tire levers, bike snacks (waffles and shot blocks,) patch kits, and saddle bags galore!
