This idea is likely here to stay a while. Service was quick and attentive, with draft Augustiner Helles beer on tap - which was very refreshing. The menu was uncomplicated and concise with traditional Bavarian meals and a few extras to make it more inclusive like Currywurst and chicken burger. The Wienerschitzel was served with sautéed potatoes and the Käsespätzle (noodle with cheese and onions) was particularly good, served with a side salad. All in all fast efficient service, friendly enough server and very good beer. The rain spots arrived just as we were ready to depart so luck was with us. One part that would get 5* are the inaccurate and very modern bathroom facilities. It's a convenient location, Worth a repeat visit for sure.

If you can see the photo associated with this review (take a good, close-up look if you can stomach it), the meat in the bun was truly weird...a kind of thin shell surrounding some brown gelatinous meat. It was like the inside was completely uncooked, but not red or pink as uncooked ground beef should be. And completely cold. The best I could tell was that it was maybe old, marinated beef (or just old), briefly deep-fried. The waiter (who I think was a member of the family ownership) was mildly apologetic. First he said that it was medium-rare. "Nein, es ist roh! Und braun!" ,I replied. I didn't have the German skills to explain that it is a health risk to serve burgers "medium-rare" in the way that steak is..but that would have been only scratching the surface of everything that was truly wrong with this weird and dangerous monstrosity. Then he offered a free espresso to compensate...but not the price of the burger as I'd eaten the fries. That was a mistake for him, an expense to me, but a great service to you and mankind, as I am now warning you with this tale of woe. Hopefully you can see the photo of the burger...because it is kind of scary. I know Driegroschenkeller is supposed to be themed on 30s austerity and hard times, but it's meant to be just pretend, not real privation, disease and prison-grade food.

Fortunately, I managed to get a table on a rainy day. I spent €81 (before tips) on 4 oysters, a duck breast entrée with a baked cheese tomato add-on (a generous portion), and two glasses of wine. The server was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The dishes were thoughtfully prepared, with certain items sliced or left whole for specific reasons--just ask, and you'll appreciate how considerate they are. To be honest, the oysters were just okay, but they were definitely fresh! The baked cheese tomato add-on was a pleasant surprise, so much so that I'd happily have it as a stand-alone lunch. I insisted on regional wines, although it seemed the server had other recommendations in mind. The price is not much higher than the city average (I ate way more this time for €81), but the quality and experience make it absolutely worth it. I highly recommend this place for a celebratory treat or a date. It's located inside Dallmayr grocery shop, and I'd suggest browsing the coffee shop on the 2nd floor before dinner--it adds to the overall experience!

Someone who knows how to put together taste and mouth-feel, i.e. how something chews. Great offerings, very market fresh, and so tasty. A real treat!
