After 3 back-to-back pregnancies from Jan 1992 - Feb 1994 I was not only chubby with stretch marks BUT I had a "mother's apron" - it looked solid but when sitting it laid approx halfway down my thighs. UGH! In the years to come the more weight I lost the looser it got. How could I lose weight only to have that "apron" look even worse than it already did?! A few years later I was diagnosed with an unusual heart issue. Following 3 heart surgeries in 3 months at 37 I was put on numerous heart meds; I gained more weight. I was embarrassed and ashamed of what I had become not only for me but my girls. I knew I needed to be healthy for my heart but also because I take pride in my appearance (imagine that). The question of the century was how do I get on track, lose weight, and not look more disgusting with hanging flesh? Where do I begin? Cindy (Dr. Z's nurse) suggested I meet with him. I was excited yet scared because I had heard of him; knew he was a perfectionist with his work and the end result. How could I ever be a good end product for him because I have a lot of work ahead of me. AND what plastic surgeon especially Dr. Z would ever operate on a "fat" (yes let's face it) person? Early Jan 2006 I met Dr. Z. Handsome friendly intriguing and charismatic. Never doubt that this man is not the master of plastic surgery - before, during and after. I told him my story; told him about my dreams for ME. Dr. Z listened intently; with compassion; understanding from a man who seemed to be perfect in every aspect of his life. I held my breath for his comments. He asked me what I felt my initial areas were that I was most uncomfortable with. I gave him a "laundry list" a mile long! Dr. Z reiterated that plastic surgery is not the solution for weight loss - without changing myself internally the outside will never change to the degree of what I envisioned. It would only be a patch. Dr. Z discussed my lengthy "laundry list" stating why he would not do everything on my list - too much surgery at once OR because I would not have the perfect result at this point OR it didn't need to be done at all. Dr. Z let me know he does not operate on everyone; it's not all about the money but more importantly he will not perform surgery if he does not feel that he will obtain the results that not only the way HE wants but that the patient desires. Dr. Z said he would help me start! We fully discussed and agreed I would have lipo on my torso (edge of lower part of bra to my waist all the way around). He would take the max fat but not more (and clearance from my heart doctor). This would give me the contour I needed and enough of a change to get me to the second part of the agreement. After lipo of my torso in Jan I agreed to go home and lose 50lbs by April. If I lost the weight then and not until then he would do a tummy tuck with some touch-up lipo. I was in! Later in Jan I had the lipo. My response - piece of cake! I had surgery on Thurs and was back to work on Mon. I was black (forget blue) and very sore (not the worst pain). The hardest part was getting in/out of the car. The surgery was a breeze; you do see results right away but you swell off/on for several weeks (probably 2 months in my case) but the bruising only lasted about 2 weeks. I was so excited especially as the swelling went away. I loved looking in the mirror! Excited enough that it lit a fire in me that had not been there since HS/college - time to compete with ME! Well I lost the 50! In April it was time for the tummy tuck with some touch up lipo. I was in pain without a doubt but not excruciating (child birth was more painful); you do walk bent over for a couple of days; there is bruising; the worst part was the drains (annoyance). I hated the compression garment both surgeries (temporary). I developed a pocket of fluid but it was but there was not pain. By June the transformation was noticeabl; by Aug the results were stunning! Dr. Z "saved" me! A man that is "perfect" in everything he does and has a reputation throughout New England took the time to listen to my story. He did not have to take me on as a patient because I was a gamble. He would not operate on my entire "laundry list" but he was willing to give me the chance to take the steps to start my journey. He gave me control of my life back to ME! It was up to me to take it from there. Quite honestly I have never been prouder of me - I feel beautiful and sexy! The BEST thing I have ever done. I'm a 63 year old woman who just had a facelift/neck lift with Dr. Richard Zeff. My decision to have this procedure started with not being able to improve my appearance with makeup. I no longer felt pretty and makeup didn't achieve that anymore. Also I noticed men looking at me and then turning away once they saw how old I was with sagging skin.
