Let me first state that I have never attended a service at this church. I don't even live in the…read moresame state. I was however visiting family in Florida and decided to make my way up to Dothan to find the graves of family members who have passed. We came on a hot and humid Tuesday afternoon and spent well over an hour documenting the names and grave site locations of many family members I tracked down through various genealogy sites. It was absolutely amazing to see the final resting place of relatives I've only read about in my baby book and tracked down online. Though the cemetery is rather old I was very impressed that grave markers from the early 1900's were still intact and cared for. My great grandparents on both sides, many great aunts and uncles as well as others were located here. Although they passed long before I was born seeing their gravestones made my heart happy.

Location: Rural Facilities type: Megachurch How many members were present? approx. 250-300 The Program: Opening was engaging, included audience participation, wasn't bullied into participation, started on time, appeared prepared Announcements were long winded and confusing, heard same announcements 3 times or more. Offering: Worship team ministered during offering, heard a mini-sermon on giving, manipulation perceived. Altar service: Was rushed, no manipulation perceived. Closing: Welcomed in word, but didn't feel welcomed back. Use of technology: technology works properly, used for announcements and scripture only, not maximized. Transitions: transitions rehearsed, however, flow not present, felt orchestrated instead of flowing. The People: Friendliness: The people were warm and inviting, spoke and/or made eye contact without simply staring at us. Personnel were in place to greet/usher us to our seats. Greeters were prompt, precise, and friendly. Warm inviting eye contact, did not lead to speaking. 4-6 people spoke with greetings, no conversations. Several handshakes and at least 1 hug. Most people smiled, but many appeared forced, not genuine. The Music: 5-7 songs, Music Style: Gospel, Praise Team, Piano Band the River: The worship team performed songs completely, but no effort made to flow in the spirit. Skills: Musicians played skillfully, sometimes overshadowed talent of singers and became foreground instead of background. Vocals were in key and tune, lead was solid. Singers moved about, lead singer exhorted, but still had a hurried feel to it. Congregation sang along, call and response used, portions where congregation encouraged to sing along, aloud. Observed clapping. Sound: The music and vocals are balanced. The Word: Length: 30-45 minutes Delivery Style: Organized, teacher style. Use of scripture: 10+ scriptures referenced Relevance and Revelation: Lots of revelation knowledge and practical application. Congregation response and keeping attention: Minimum audience participation/engagement. A few neighbor interactions, no use of technology to engage listeners, saw several sleepers in congregation. Pastors Ego: Petty, self-centered, huge ego, a lot of meddling.
