So, I met with the Owner of the company. He came to our home, an hour late. He came to measure. He…read moreneeded my assistance with measuring. We were checking prices - from several flooring contractors in the area. We had settled on one previously to this, but the mill was not going to be manufacturing in a timely manner that worked with our schedule, so we decided to try and check out other options. Well, I asked him how long he had worked with Kirkhoffs. He said "I am Kirkhoff!" I said, "I wouldn't of known, you never introduced yourself!" So, we walk around measuring, for carpet and wood... He then states to me "You know, we do have cheaper carpet than what you have chosen. You chose the top of the line carpet and wood flooring." I said, "I know. But at this moment you are even cheaper than your competitors, so that is a good thing!" So, we went about measuring. Our home is about 3,000 sq. ft. Mind you, we have stone in the kitchen and bathrooms and entryway and mud room, so we only need about 2,500 sq. ft. of carpet and wood. Kirkhoff said, "Well, this is quite an expense. I do want you to know that we have cheaper flooring than what you are picking out. And with the cost of moving all your stuff. That has got to be a big expense!" I said "You are not going to include the moving of the furniture?" He said "No, you have too much stuff! Try XXX company. They can move all the furniture." I said "No fricking way are they going to be stepping foot in our house! They charged me $200 to move a desk from our garage into our den!" (It was about 15-20 feet for reference.) He said "Well, Im not going to move it!" I said to Kirkoff, "Well, you can just leave then. If you are not going to move our furniture, I am not going to do business with you! The other companies that I have gotten prices from are willing to move the furniture!" So I opened the door and let him out. He turned to me and asked me "How much are the other companies going to charge you to move the furniture?" I said "It's none of your frickin business!" He said "Oh my gosh - I can't believe this!" Not only are the other companies willing to move our furniture but they are not acting like we do not have the finances to get a high priced flooring. We own our homes. We do not have mortgages. We plan on living here for many years and if we want to spend our money on a high quality floor, that we will not have to replace in 10 years, so be it. We just remodeled our kitchen a few months ago. We had the same experience at the Lowes for kitchen appliances. The man there said "Maybe I will show you something a little less costly, something you can afford!" I called up the Manager of Lowes and told him that we were redoing our kitchen and this is what his salesperson said to me while deciding what appliances to go with. I decided at that point, I was going elsewhere and I did spend $20,000 on appliances. I am planning on spending about $20,000 on flooring now. The moral to the story, just don't think that people can not always afford it when you are a sales person. Kirkhoff I am sure has probably seen some multi million dollar estates, but with his unprofessional attitude and smell reeking of cigarettes, I don't want him in our home. Good day!
