I am naturally drawn to stores that profess to be retro and vintage and I am quite often let down as I see poorly made modern clothes out of China, no bigger than a size 10 in cheap nasty prints, or ugly pieces from the 50's and 60's in good condition that were too ugly to touch even then and now have a huge exorbitant price tag attached all because they can be called "vintage". Just because they are "vintage" does not make them any less ugly!!
Retro Spec'd was thankfully not one of these stores. Offering skirts and dresses for the gals and Hawaiian shirts and smoking jackets for the guys with a few pants and halter tops thrown in the mix, newly made but in fantastic bright 50's prints, there was a fantastic range of retro clothing at this gorgeous store, that was a delight to browse through. The clothing seemed to be very well made and was set as a reasonable price for quality pieces (roughly $150.00 a dress). Not many vintage accessories but there was a great old tv that had been converted into an aquarium.
If the staff had been a little more cheery and if there had been a few more accessories available I would have given the extra star. read more
