I gave her all the info I had, made notes on what else she needed and emailed her with some follow up questions within the week. I did not receive a response and had to follow up a couple different times until we figured out my emails were in her junk folder. The same thing happened again after that. Besides the communication issues, I was disappointed at paying a hefty fee for CPA to find out she did my taxes wrong. After my husband spoke to her receptionist to straighten things out, the taxes were fixed. I have no faith that all the other complicated stuff that I was scared to do myself was done correctly to maximize my return. Also- I got absolutely no tips on what to do for next year. I know 1 thing- I will stick with TurboTax!

This year I paid the 50% retainer in November, got nothing other than a receipt by email. I kept waiting for some sort of communication about uploading or drop off. So, I finally dropped my mom's tax info off on April 6, and.....nothing. I have no idea whether my mom's returns were filed. I tried requesting a password for what I assumed was an upload site or client portal and it was never sent to me, not in my spam or clutter folders. Their voicemail seems to be broken- long dead spots and when I try to leave a voicemail it returns a message that the person at that extension...then cuts out. I stopped by today (April 15) and surprise, they closed at 11 and won't reopen until the 20th. Hope my mom's taxes returns were filed, but even if they were, I'm using another firm next year, the communication from this one is abysmal.

As part of the contract we signed, we also agreed to have them file our taxes for this year. Laura, and the rest of the team at Taylor and Company, made things as easy as possible. Through their portal we uploaded the documents necessary for correction and filing. This portal accepted photographs and files making it easy to upload documents whether in paper or digital form. Since they needed our previous year's documents to correct our withholdings, there were places that we could simply click "same as previous year" or "already on file" when submitting our current year taxes. Have I mentioned how easy this was? It took roughly around 24 hours after submitting on the portal to get our taxes filed. Shortly after we had our state refund. The cost for filing our taxes is definitely not cheap. It is the most we have ever paid (we've always done those free tax services). But the ease, efficiency and speed of doing it with Taylor and Company definitely felt worth it to us.

He likes to knock out your taxes so bring everything with you or quickly mail it to him when you get home. He'll get it back to you... just file early :-) I don't like paying other people to do my taxes but I like to save my sanity and have peace of mind. I require a bunch of forms so going to H&R Block wouldn't be a great idea because they can't handle more than a simple tax filing well. They are also expensive and Thomas isn't much more. He's also way more experienced. I'll be going back next year.
