If you are looking for a great meal at a reasonable price Stop reading, and go here now!…read more The restaurant is off the main road to the ruins. It is a little hard to find. There is a large beautiful covered porch with a full bar. It felt amazing and intimate at night. The food is blackout good. Seriously! I do not post often, unless I feel someplace deserves the spotlight. I have only been to Italy a couple times. I am not expert. The wine list is good. This food here was better than most of what I had in Italy. We had the meat and cheese plate to begin. I have not found prosciutto de parma(?) this good out of Italy. The Parmesan cheese was authentic. The Aperol spritz takes me back to Tuscany. The bread and olive spread were on point. My partner is gluten free, and it can be challenging to find pasta, but they had it. I had the Brazilian steak with vegetables and potato's. The steak was cooked perfectly. The vegetables were a revelation. They were so flavorful, and the texture was creamy and perfect. Many restaurants can get the protein right, but completely ignore the vegetables. This was done right! Save room for the tiramisu it is worth it. The service was Italian to the T. Expect to enjoy your time. Soak up the ambience; it is why you are here. It is a little tricky to get there. It is a small road takes you back to Monte Verde and another hotel. The restaurant is on a hill. You go past the left hand turn directing you to the Axkan hotel and go straight up the hill. We were told the restaurant had parking there. Unfortunately we turned and drove to the hotel, past the front of the restaurant and walked back. We were charged to park at the hotel which might be ok, but the hotel lied to us and told us Monte Verde did not have parking. Boo on them.

I give out very few 1 stars. I base my reviews on the basis of what kind of quality or service one…read moreshould receive based on the price or claimed prestige of a restaurant. This is the most expensive restaurant in Palenque. It boasts high quality steaks and dresses up its staff members to be something closer to something you'd expect in San Miguel de Allende or Mexico City. In truth, this place is miserable. We walked in to find multiple tables missing chairs, missing linens, have dirty linens or perhaps just tables with random dirty cutlery. Kind of a bizarre sight considering it wasn't an overly busy place. We had to begin setting up our own table before we got any service. The service was Chiapan service at its worst. The server came up to our table and stared at us with an annoyed look. Never once saying 'Hi' or asking if we'd like drinks. When we finally did get our food and drinks, things didn't get much better. I hope you like bones with your fish, because they are excellent at providing bones in all of their fish dishes. And their fish medallions were less medallions but more chunks. Perhaps if their dishes came with a lot of seasoning or flavour I could look past this, but the dishes were bland. The only exception is the mole sauce, which was quite delicious. Unfortunately the poor service never did end. We asked for the bill 4 times and waited around an hour for it. When we tried to pay it, we were then told that the credit card machine was broken. Unfortunately a common trick used in Mexico to avoid paying credit card fees. I'm sure if we had pushed it, the credit card machine would have miraculously fixed itself. But by this point we just wanted to go home. My guess is that sometimes this place is pretty decent. The luck of the draw. Afterall it's rated one of the top 5 places to eat on Trip Advisor. Something that I don't understand.
