So good but expensive, Maya Cañada is a place you want to visit for lunch or dinner in Palenque!
I was staying in town a few days and avoided this spot due to the high prices (and I'm from California where eating out is not cheap). I should not have, they have the best food in town. Service is very good, although when slow staff can get distracted. They have English menus available.
The food is so good, like you melt in your chair good. I had a new dish, tostones con cochinita. The twice fried plantains are smashed thin and crispy, with a salty garlicky tang. On top they put perfectly cooked and deeply flavored black bean spread and the aforementioned cochinita (pork slow roasted with local spices that is not piquant). I died there, best cochinita I have had outside of Merida.
My companions had some taquitos that were very big and there were five of them. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food, the ambiance and conversation. We enjoyed the fans and being able to see the street life in a warm environment.
If in or near Palenque, try out Maya Cañada for the best eats in a relaxing environment. read more
