We chose the monitrice package because I wanted the reassurance a midwife could provide me with, and it was the absolute best decision. Having a Doula and midwife was the best of both worlds, we felt supported emotionally and had the hands on care from a midwife. This helped us realize our goals of laboring at home as long as possible, and having an unmedicated, natural birth at the hospital. I had my partner, mother and Madrone in the birth room, and Madrone balanced everyone out perfectly. They helped ensure each person had a place and space in my birth, all while taking photos to document it which I will treasure for the rest of time. Madrone was not only there for us during our birth, but before and after in such an impactful way. They helped us prepare before mentally and physically, helping us put together our birth plan and leading us through meditative breathing exercises. Madrone was also there after our birth, with several in person sessions as well as available for support along the way as we got settled in at home. It was so reassuring to have someone so knowledgable to ask questions as things came up - breastfeeding, diaper rash, eye boogers - Madrone had helpful information and answers to everything we asked them. I am a first time mom, healthy overall physically/mentally, and was seeking a low intervention and unmedicated birth. I started my pregnancy with a well regarded OB in Palo Alto. During my time there I hadn't even met my doctor and was not given more than 5 minutes per appointment. It was impersonal and not a fit, so I decided to change practices and make the long drive (I live in Redwood City) to BAM. My first appointment with BAM was night and day and continued that way through my entire pregnancy. Every midwife is professional, knowledgable, and kind. They all care deeply for their patients and take as much time as needed to discuss questions or concerns. After each appointment I'd receive notes with follow ups, and if I ever had any additional questions I could easily message them and they'd reply so quickly. I felt secure and supported leading up to my delivery. If there was ever a decision to be made, (ex. vaccines, GBS treatment, due date) the options were discussed in an evidence-based conversation without judgment and completely empowering me to make the decision - I was NEVER pushed into any medical intervention. In fact, when I had concerns over something, Lin called me on her day off to help. This is what I mean by exceptional support and care. During my delivery in Feb 2023, I was supported by Lin, Danielle, and my doula Tara Gomez. I had a long and challenging labor but ultimately was able to deliver my baby girl safely, without an epidural. I owe this completely to the care and support I was given. I am convinced, had I given birth with a traditional OB, I would have experienced many more interventions and would not have been able to deliver naturally. The entire experience was incredibly empowering! Lin is the best of the best in this field, being a midwife for over 40 years and delivering over 7,000 babies. I am just one of those numbers, but I will never forget the level of expertise she brought to my baby's birth. Regardless of where I live in the Bay Area, I plan to come back to BAM for any future pregnancy. I cannot recommend this practice more and I am SO grateful for these midwives and this practice. With our first son I was the typical hospital story of water breaking and then being pumped full of pitocin. It. Was. HORRIBLE!! I diligently searched for a midwife team who would suggest alternative options if it came down to that. Emily, Stephanie and Sharon were like my three guardian angels. We felt totally comfortable asking them anything that came to mind from logistics to spiritual and emotional questions. As sad as we were to leave the house and go to the hospital, the transfer was very efficient and professional. The midwives gave us great support through the hospital stay and once we returned home. My wife Laura said we should hire a Doula for the birthing. Me, the tightwad skeptic said WHY, it's just more money to spend! We're going to be in Sutter Hospital, we have a doctor, nurses, a midwife, where would we squeeze in a Doula (thank goodness Tari is petite). Obviously Laura won that argument and I'm so happy she did. The thing is in the hospital, the doctors, nurses and midwives are understaffed. Tari served an important function that I didn't know was needed, when you are in labor for 14 hours, it helps to have someone there that understands what is going on. Between the breathing, walking, hugging, and confidence boosting, she is invaluable. Looking back, it was one of the best financial investments I ever made. Needless to say, Tari was back for all three of our next children which were born at home with no complications. We consider her our good luck charm. I think we were one of Tari's first clients in her new midwife status and we are so pleased to be able to recommend her to anybody having a baby! Each visit throughout our pregnancy was educational, in depth and caring. This was our first child and from the moment we met Andrea, we knew we were in good hands. Every prenatal visit we checked glucose levels, health check on me and then baby, we talked on what to expect during labor, planning for after labor, she gave me time to ask any questions I had. We even had deeper conversations like what it meant to me to do a home birth. And the importance of connecting with our ancestors. Andrea always encouraged me to listen to my intuition with my body if I ever felt like something wasn't right. One instance, she helped me identify I had a UTI when the Dr said it was just pregnancy pain. Labor was magical with everyone there. We didn't have a big space, but Andrea and Diana made it feel so roomy and worked with us. During labor, when I felt like I couldn't do it any more, Andrea reminded me of my strength. Diana grounded me when my mind was not there and was so patient with me. She did some light grocery shopping for us, cooked and cleaned. I could go on and on how much I loved our labor. The support didn't stop after labor! After baby was born. We didn't have to leave our space for a few weeks since she came to us to check up on baby AND US! She gave us articles and resources for things babies experience their first few months.
