One of the finest meals of my life on a cold winter night. Every Austrian city that relies on…read moretourism has a selection of various restaurants serving the same (nearly identical!) selection of traditional Austrian and Tyrolean favorites. You know the menu before you even see it. Anich is, in my opinion, the very best of them all. Be aware that the food is HEAVY and served in large portions. If you order one of the classic popular meat dishes (roast pork, schnitzel, goulash, etc) you should either be very hungry, prepared to share, or willing to ask for a takeout box. It's a ton of food and it's all stellar. I'm trying and failing to think of something we ordered there that was less than delicious and I can't. The service was not especially fast but I don't mark this kind of restaurant down for that because the meal is supposed to be a slow one. The local wine selection is excellent as is the beer. During a very crowded time you may be asked to share a large table with strangers or so we heard, but in my visits I never saw this happen. It was winter. Summer may be a different story. The building is lovely as are the several dining rooms. If you're looking for a light meal go elsewhere. If you want to be stuffed with dumplings, meat, gravy, and all that great stuff don't go elsewhere.

Food was very good, service was great and we were seated quickly without a reservation.read more

Will definitely be back on a return trip. It's a pricier dinner for the area but in my opinion, well worth it. I had the venison and everyone at the table agreed that they wished they had ordered it.

All dishes that I tasted were non-pretentious, perfectly seasoned and warmed both my body and my soul. The atmosphere is rustic and intimate and the service is good. That said, my rating is based on the taste of their food and detailed review follows. Beef Tartare - it was an appetizer special and although I am a big fan of that particular dish, I have to say that this was the only dish that I had that night, that didn't do it for me. Instead of being hand cut (the way I like it), the meat was ground (which is a typical way beef tartare is prepared in Austria), so I will skip providing my rating for this dish. Top Blade Steak braised in red wine, served with polenta, fennel and roasted onions. 5 stars all the way! Melt in your mouth tender, beefy, juicy and combined with creamy polenta it was a star of the evening. Wiener Schnitzel made with pork meat. 4 stars. A solid version of Wiener Schnitzel and although it tasted very good, you can find a lot better versions of this dish in Sankt Anton. Austrian Ravioli stuffed with Porcini Mushrooms and cheese - 4.5 stars. Cooked to a nice al-dente and covered in warm brown butter. The stuffing was savory and thick and you could taste the porcini inside. Although a little more expensive than other restaurants in town, I recommend this restaurant for a nice romantic dinner in St. Anton.

Ambiance (5 stars): It has a very homey feeling to it. Especially with the rules that you share tables if you do not have a big enough party and no reservations. Food (4 stars): - Mixed meat (4.5 stars): would recommend. - Salads (3.5 stars): We got the mozzarella salad and a large mixed salad, both were good but came with too much sauce/creamy. - Goulash Soup: (4 stars) comes with bread, it was very hearty. - Traditional roasted pork, tyrolean bread dumplings with bacon sauerkraut, gravy. (4 stars) It was tasty, but nothing outstanding. - Apple Strudel with custard sauce: (4 stars). It was pretty tasty, but a pretty small portion, nothing outstanding. - Ice cream (5 stars): With the umbrella very good. For 4 of us the bill came to 106 euros. Service: (4 stars) The waiter at the start was trying not to speak english, but after a while he warmed up to us, and was friendly. A few interesting things about the restaurant: - you share tables, most of the tables seat about 10 people. - They do not do reservations, first come first serves - 30Euros minimum if you use visa I would come here again.

Though if you are hungry sit down and buckle up because the portions are big, home crafted and delicious. Zams is a very small place in Austria, and the Post-Gasthof Gemse (named after the cutest mountain goat you have ever seen) is one of the only authentic Austrian restaurants around. And it WILL be full. No reservations unless your party is a substantial number, so call, get an idea of a good time to go then just wait if you have to, there is enough to entertain you in the hallway that you wont even realize the time. Order a soup. They have all the Austrian specialties: Frittatensuppe, Knödelsuppe, Kurbis soup, all fabulous. Everyone was ordering the Schnitzel - nach Wiener Art - but I decided to try their house made Frischkasse with Schweinemedaillons and Polenta. Delicious. Everything we tried (all soups and Rinderfleisch, Schnitzel, und Schweinemedaillons) was very tasty. But because the portions were huge we had NO ROOM for dessert. That is something that rarely happens! Gemse is more than worth a visit. Make sure you read the history on the menu and enjoy imagining all the activity this house has seen.
