I can see what he means as the food is very hearty and reminds you of home cooked meals immediately! A couple of friends and I met up for dinner and drinks on a Sunday night here. I hear that this place can be very crowded so it is best to call ahead and reserve if you can. We we got there though, there was plenty of room, but they did indicate which tables were reserved and at what times. For my drink, I ordered the Parliament mule which consisted of vodka, ginger, and I think bitter orange? It was very tasty and refreshing. Reminded me of a mimosa but with a vodka kick! For our appetizer, we shared a plate of pickled vegetables and we also nibbled on fresh bread and dip (on the house!). The pickled vegetables assortment was pretty interesting. There were not just cucumbers in the mix but also little squash veggies and tomatoes as well. It was a great start to the meal. My friend mentioned that you usually start with the pickled vegetables and shots of vodka. I think that sounds better so I might try that next time! :) For my entree, I ordered the mixed plate of pierogis. It comes with 8 pirerogis (mix of vegetable and meat ones) and some sour cream sauce for dipping. I was a little bit scared 8 pieces would not be enough but the pieces are packed with vegetable and meat fillings so yeah in the end... I was happy and full! It's a great spot for dinner and drinks as they have their own spin on cocktails and the classic choices for your beers. The food is all really great and reasonably priced! I ordered a Kartoffelsuppe Zurek (potato and sausage soup reminding me of a Toscana style soup) for 5,5 Euros, a hot fruit tea for 2,9 Euros, and a large order of fish and pan-fried potatoes (Pannfisch Bratkartoffeln) that I split witih a friend for 14,9 Euro. Definitely plenty of food, and really good. The soup was very flavorful and not too heavy despite the potatoes. The fish was also good, there was 1 salmon, and 2 pieces of white fish (maybe a herring?) topped with a slightly sweet mustard sauce, and the pan fried potatoes with its cripsy edges were great! Included a small side salad and sauerkraut. Only 2 people were really working there, but service was good and we were able to communicate well enough despite our waitress' limited English.

After we asked to be served for 20 minutes (after a festival in the city) and see 3 tables being served before our even arriving later than us, this bold waiter came and when asked the menu he was rude asking if we had waited for too long. When we said that was quiet long actually, he was rude and shout at us making jokes about the festival we were, and we shouldn't expect a fast service as we are festival goers. He kept making jokes about us and the music we listen... We decide to leave instead of having a problem with our food after all this rudeness. I can't understand how he is still working there (maybe he is son of one of the owners!). If you expect to be served in less than 30 minutes (if you are not German!) and have the minimum customer service and politeness do NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!

Old building with great characters and all table lite up by long candles (old style). Plus there is a long bar that you can seat and enjoys a pint or two or more. Which in my case, I did. I'm not a beer person much but I just love it here, in Europe. The aroma, the taste, the smell, even every type of beer come with different glass. They don't speak English much but they do have English menu and they are very helpful and very nice. The foods are excellent, I'm paring it with the beers therefore 4 dishes plus dessert with 4 big pints. Man, either I'm hungry or I love the vibes here that I finished them all. It's definitely a lot and so grateful that my hotel is just 10mins walk away. If you're ever in the town, check it out. So local and they do have outdoor too (during warmer and non wet days).

The anti-climatic was the main dish - a chicken breast in hollandaise sauce. It was just OK. But everything else was top notch. Service was spotty. Meals came out very erratically and what should have been a 2 hour meal turned into a 4 hour marathon. But I really liked the food and the vibe. A little polish on the service and it will be first rate.
