Restaurant Zur Alten Taverne Kloten…read more Our business team was staying at the Radisson Blu at the Airport. The hotel is super convenient as it is directly attached to the Airport and to the rail station. We were not excited to eat at the hotel, so the Zur Alten Taverne Kloten was recommended by Yelp and the hotel front desk. By taxi the restaurant is 5 minutes away. By foot it is a 20 minute walk. The restaurant has two dining areas; a glass enclosed garden terrace and a more indoor bar/Swiss pub area. Both areas are quite comfortable. The wine list is not extensive but the choices are reasonably priced. They did offer 3 different beers on draft that were a highlight. The restaurant offers a good selection of Swiss and European dinner options. Everyone on our team enjoyed their selections, including the deserts. If you are overnighting at the airport, Zur Alten Taverne is an excellent option.

While on an overnight layover in Zurich - technically Kloten where the airport is located - we…read moredecided we wanted to try to eat something relatively Swiss even though there are a plethora of Asian restaurants all around. This quaint restaurant nestled between stores and flats was walking distance from our hotel. We ended up ordering beef stroganoff which featured tender beef cubes in a rich, savory sauce and house made egg noodles and veggies. Stick-to-your-ribs goodness. We also got an order of Argentine empanadas since the menu boasted they were a house recipe. They were just the right combination of savory meat and flaky, fried dough. They were light considering and came with a crisp, fresh salad. Though neither dish were traditional Zurich fare, we enjoyed eating al fresco on the patio adjacent to a small green space behind some flats. The patio had the loveliest flowers around it, and the tempt was perfect for eating outdoors. Service was very good. Like most service we've experienced in Europe, the server is attentive until your meal is served and then you are left in peace to enjoy your meal. We would eat there again and recommend it if you are staying overnight near Zurich International Airport. The only drawback was that there were few options for gluten free diners which we've found to be relatively typical.

We tried their homemade Jamaica and Horchata. Definetly brought me back to Southern California. I will make sure to stop at El Burrito when we are in the Winterthur area.

Not sure how long this place has been around, but it's in a very clandestine location, so I hope it survives, at least by virtue of its authenticity. As an American, how can I speak of the authenticity of Mexican cuisine? Well, I'm from San Diego and lived 15 minutes from the border of Mexico. Mexican food is San Diegan food. And I've spent a lot of time on the other side of the frontier. Therefore, I can say that, as surmised, the food is authentic. The execution, however wasn't all there - see pics. Beef Tacos weren't grilled carne asada but shredded beef that wasn't particularly moist... and that's it. I didn't have to ask, "where's the beef?", but I did have to ask, "where's everything else?"! They brought a small dish with diced onion and cilantro and another with a very mild green salsa, which I certainly loaded into the tacos, but I was missing the salsa fresca (pico de gallo) and some guac. The taquitos on the other hand were quite good, with crema and crumbled dry white cheese - similar to Cotija. They also had a nice selection of aguas frescas - cold tea and sweet fruit drinks + horchata, the latter being muy rica! They also have all of the champion Mexican brews (negra modelo, modelo especial, bohemia...). Very reasonable prices. Very friendly service. Unfortunately, the location is a little removed.
