There was really no one else in the restaurant, so I cannot comment on the normal atmosphere. It was very clean and bright. My biggest complaint, and it really isn't just this restaurant, comes from the amount of flies I had to fend off. As for the food, it was tasty. I started with fish soup, which was deliciously salty. For my entree I had ceviche, which I have never had so I tried it out. It was delicious, however the sweetness and the coconut flavor overwhelmed me toward the end and I wasn't able to finish it! I was able to have their apple tart for a dessert and loved it. The tart was soft and applely. No complaints there. Overall, it was a lively experience!

I had the herring sample plate, don't remember the exact name, but it was something like Köln Sushi. In any case, it was herring served in a bout 6 different ways and I loved every one of them. This dish is for true lovers of those delightful little fish. They were smoked, marinated, raw, with beets in a salad, grilled, and so on. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I finished it all, something I seldom do. This was the best meal I had in Cologne, and I'd go back for more. That's saying a lot too, as I almost always prefer trying somewhere new. The riverside setting is great for people watching, and for us it was a great place to duck out of the rain for a Kölsch before we decided to stay and dine.

Plus, if you can't handle the culture diversity probably you shouldn't do catering on the most international corner in Köln. I welcome any German friend to enlighten me on this. As a matter of fact I look forward to stop here each time we're in town. My wife and I made friends with Mario the owner a while ago...can't say that it has had any influence on our dining experiences. Their wines are not overpriced and well selected for their dishes. My favorite is their grilled octopus with with roasted potatoes and paprika spices...A very authentic Spanish dish and delicious. When in season their Matjes fish dishes with westfalian black bread are great too and can be a good appetizer to share. If the weather allows, outdoor dining is fun if not too crowded. There are not many alternatives for Fish-Houses in Germany that have such a variety. Of course, if there are large exhibitions in Dusseldorf places like this get overwhelmed and should be avoided.

Bulgogi Haus offered four types of sauces when two is the norm, for varying combinations of flavors. The meats are grilled in front of you on charcoal, and the servers take care to replace the charcoal at least once so that you are not eating burnt pieces of meat. I really liked the concept of having the side dishes buffet-style. It's really a mood-killer when you run out of lettuce or salad in the middle of eating your meats then waiting for your server to refill your salads. The offerings included fried calamari, Korean-sushi, sticky and sweet potatoes, fish cakes, and kimchi. Bulgogi-Haus does not seem to use MSG, even in their yummy kimchi, and I was simply content after the meal without having to reach for extra glasses of water.
