There are things that you must get used…read moreto... stores are always closed, you are obliged to speak to people upon entering and exiting an elevator, just before lunch and immediately before eating... and it's hard to find a good burger. I'm not sure why this is... perhaps folks prefer the local cuisine, or a juicy horse steak, or maybe they just have never had a big ol' burger. If so, they've never been to the Bockrijder. Looking at the menu, you'll quickly see that it's all they do... that and the odd salad. And of course, they are a full service bar. Since I don't really eat beef that means that I haven't tried 90% of their menu... but the Chicken Norris sandwich I've ordered enough times to make up for that. Spread liberally with the curry sauce (or dig deep and spend another CHF 0.5 for the Magic Sauce...) it's about as close as I can get to a turkey burger back home.Add to that a generous side of fries (and they are good fries, but everyone has good fries over here) and a 5dl pull of draft Feldschlossen, and you've got a meal. The whole affair will run you CHF25-30, but this is Switzerland, deal with it. Also... the kitchen usually keeps bar hours. This alone is worth whatever price it costs! Take the Onde Verte to the Colombier stop.. the door literally faces the train. From Colombier, it's right across the street from the castle and right next to public parking. Look for the cool goat sign painted on the side of the building.

Also, if you order tap water, it's billed 1.50 per person if no other drink ordered, means per person too... So, with that rule, I'm just not leaving any tip. (Even if tip is not mandatory here, it's always nice 1 or 2 Sfr per person). And this is why I set only 2 stars...

Most restaurants have between five and twenty pies on the menu, even if they're not really pizza places. Pizzeria des Allées crushes them all into oblivion, with a menu that offers over two hundred different pizza names! Unfortunately, they are all really the same Italian pizza with some combination of the twenty or so different toppings they stock. Don't get me wrong... they make a good Italian pizza, even if I can't really understand the logic between a New York (tomato, mozz, ham, bacon, mushrooms, onions, asparagus, peppers, olives, and oregano???) and a USA (the same pizza with an egg and no olives or asparagus)... the names are just random. On an amusing side note, some of the spicier pizzas named after devils were recently re-christened after angels (with the requisite handschrift write-in next to cross-out marks), but you can still order a Ben Laden, Fidel, or Adolf if that's your fancy. The one strong point for me, besides the excellent friendly service, is the calzone is substantially less crispy than the usual Italian frisbee, so I've been working my way through the four or so of those offered on the menu. The wine is decent and reasonably priced for Switzerland, and the desserts are fine indeed. Anything on the menu is available for take-out at a reasonable discount (10 or 15% I think) if that's your pleasure. I like this place... they're open on Mondays, and very conveniently right next to the Bas des Allees stop on the Onde Verte, and the footpath through Paradis Plage campground. They have their own parking, and if you like multitasking the recycling collection boxes are out back.
