On our last night in Colmar we dined in this restaurant. Reservations are necessary (many guests were turned away when showing up without)
It's a very classy, very stylish restaurant with an interesting menu. We got a table upstairs. Our Bulldog was welcome as well. Thanks for that!
Ordered a bottle of wine - fair prices - and got our complementary Amuse-Bouche soon.
Ordered the Tuna Tartare and the Croque-Monsieur with Langoustines for starters.
The Tartare was incredible. A wonderful twist with the matching seeds on top and a good load of oil/lemon juice. Fresh, crunchy, tasty. The best item of the night! And one of the best - maybe THE best - Tuna Tartare I've ever had.
The Croque Monsieur with Langoustine was a bit disappointing. Just not enough Langoustine and/or seafood flavour. It'd be alright...but it wasn't cheap for what we got.
For the mains we've had the grilled fish and the veal sweetbreads. The fish was really fresh, cooked to perfection. But not too exciting. Good, but no twist there.
The sweetbreads were a good choice though. Don't let yourself put off by the thought of what it actually is. It's actually the thymus (also called throat, gullet). But if you have an open mind, then you're in for a very tasty, very tender piece of meat. And this one here was cooked perfectly.
Planned on having a Digestif after dinner. But the place was really really busy and the waiter had to run up and down the stairs all the time. Felt a bit bad for him. That's a lot of work.
Waited a good 20mins or so, but still busy. So we decided to call it a night without a Digestif.
All in all a good dinner. Good, but not great. Two out of four items were really amazing. Two were average though. And price-wise it's definitely on the higher end. Friendly owner/staff though. read more
