We stopped in to La Buffet around noon after wandering around the Saturday market. There were two couples there ahead of us and the silence in the room was deafening. The five of us coming in started to liven things up and as more patrons entered a he sound level got up to at least a murmur.
As the name says the primary feature of La Buffet is the buffet, and there are a number of items that can be ordered to supplement the buffet. The buffet itself offered a number of cold plates, cheeses, and deserts. This wasn't the "groaning board" of a hundred dishes, but a tasteful collection of cold hors de ouvers. The crew enjoyed the selection and quality. I sampled one of MK's deviled eggs and found it good but not exceptional.
I ordered the sweetbread and kidney casserole and one of our gang ordered the mussel risotto. While not disappointing, again the term "good but not exceptional" comes to mind. The sauce in the casserole was tasty but the kidney was a bit dry.
Most of the folks dining here seemed to be regulars, and La Buffet looks to have been around for a while so it has withstood the test of time. It's worthwhile to pop in as we did to sample the local color but I wouldn't make a special trip to get here. read more
