We were a table of four and we sampled the foie gras, the duck, the beef. All the dishes are flavorful with a little something on top to surprise and develop all the flavors. Having stopped off in a local hotel, we decided to book into Un Parfum de Gourmandise. There were a number of good reviews on another review website. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a very accommodating young lady who asked if we wished to be seated straight away or have a drink in the foyer. The decor inside is completely in contrast to the drab street the venue is situated on. So we decided to sit down and have a drink. I opted for the local ale, which I was surprised to say was not repulsive (France not really being known for cask ales). After our drink and small nibbles that were provided without being ordered (all very tasty) we were seated in the small restaurant. Other than us there were only one other occupied table which I admit initially worried me. We opted for the 30 Euro 3 course meal and had a bottle of champagne to accompany it. The lady at the front desk took the orders and also served them as they were delivered; they were all extremely well cooked and very tasty. Having been to a few "fine dining" places this place really stood out. We asked the waitress about the place and she explained they were recently opened and she was in fact married to the chef and they ran it as a family venture. The chef came out and although struggled with English still kindly indulged out grilling and let us know he had been working in kitchens around Paris and other French cities. Over all this place was a great find, and I would strongly recommend anyone in the area to stop off and try the amazing food. The icing on the cake was the value, approx 60 Euros for an experience I have paid near to 10 x the amount to have in other restaurants (some that didn't even meet the obvious expectations)

Since the prepared fois gras really dissent require and preparation it was quite good, though the accompaniments were lackluster. My wife had a duck cassolet. The beans were nice but the duck breast, leg, and sausage were all dry and very tough. Not appetizing at all. I had a confit of pork. I expected super tender, fall apart pork like my wife had a few days before at another restaurant, but instead a got a tough, slightly dry slice of pork roll. Very disappointing. For dessert we had a dry and very savory but cake, saved only by small puddles of sweet vanilla and chocolate sauce. I was not really expecting to be wowed by a restaurant in Sarlat, but La Quatre Saisons provided the best meal I have had in a long time. Firstly, the service is friendly and efficient - the waiter also answered all our questions about how the dishes were made with a smile. We chose the 3 course menu (we chose opposite choices for each course, so as tovtry everything), and were also served the complimentary courses of amouse bouche and petit fours (both delicious). Ours starters were both foie gras - mandatory in Sarlat, of course. The terrine was exquisite!!! The bloc (mousse) was also very good, but the terrine was the real star. For mains, we had succulent duck breast with persillade and pork with a wonderful mushroom (cepes) sauce. Both mains were served with the most delicious mashed potatoes I have EVER tasted - exeptionally luscious and flavoured with cepes. For dessert we had a walnut cake with chocolate sauce and a fantastic walnut ice cream, and strawberries marinated in red wine served with pain d'epices ice cream. Of the two, the strawberries was the winner, as the strawberries from this area are the best strawberries in the world, in my opinion (the are a cross breed between wild strawberries and the "normal" kind). All this plus a bottle of white wine came at a measley 55 euros, which is just ridiculously cheap for such good food. This place is everything you would want from a French restaurant - don't miss it if you visit Sarlat!
