After that, the place takes reservations for tables - if you show up after that time you will need to sit outside or stand at the bar. Tuchlaube serves local (light) beers some whiskeys and tea/coffee, as well as small bites like burgers, sandwiches and flat-dough pizzas. The interior is hip, bright and the ceiling slopes to the back. The wait staff are clueless. There were big mistakes in our waiters' knowledge of basic prices for beers and food (I was overcharged). After we dined, I was also charged 2 Francs for 'mineral' water - when I specifically asked for tap! That is a trick waiters pull in Europe to up the bill amount. Nevertheless, Tuchlaube is a funky and bright bar with lots of chatter. The bar didn't sell the whiskey I had felt like drinking. The ambiance is very casual for such a high class food place but it is right for the ambiance and we like the easy going way. It's operated by the family since generations always on a very high level. Service is very friendly and if you are lucky to have nice weather - you just can't top the seating on the patio. They have a nice selection on the wine list and the menu (not to many items) but all is good and compared with the quality you get, the prices are reasonable. We had the 4 courses evening menu - you can also order single items from the menu. We started with an amuse bouche as a greeting from the kitchen - what was a vegan tartar - tasted delicious. They keep the bread coming for all the courses which is nice - I'm really a bread lover. Only thing - I would enjoy a separate personal plate for the bread (which is really usual that you do not get one for this style of restaurant). So first course was a nicely decorated smoked trout, second course a peas soup, main course we had a gilthead (we changed this course from the original) and lastly we had a coupe Romanoff - specially interpreted. All was really delicious, looked great and tasted even better - the service was all night very nice, friendly and attentive - probably they could use one or two hands more. But restaurants just opened up fully in Switzerland after the pandemic - so it's probably tough for the owners to get the people. So definitely a place to go - and we will come again.
