J'aime bien l'hotel Swissotel Metropole!…read more
OK, that was the limit of my French, so back to English. In the 10 or so times that I've been to Geneva, I have always (except once when it was full), stayed at the Metropole. A couple of reasons for this:
Number 1, it is really close to my office (although the office has now moved). However, for people not travelling for work, this translates to "it is close to the town centre", which makes it easy to access the shops and restaurants. It is also facing Lake Geneva, which makes it easy to cross the bridge and access the restaurants on the other side of the lake.
Number 2, the service is impeccable. The staff are always really polite, and when I was at the height of frequent visits, the manager knew me by name. Even after a year, he still recognised me. When my parents celebrated their wedding anniversary here a few years ago, I put in a quick call to the hotel, who organised champagne and fruits, which was a really nice gesture.
Number 3, they have a loyalty scheme (always a bonus when you're a frequent traveller).
The only main downside to the hotel is the cost - the full cooked buffet breakfast is a whopping CHF42! Although, I suspect this is fairly in-line with costs in Geneva generally.
It's a very good business-styled hotel. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a booking for my next visit, so will need to try out another hotel. Boo.
